Spirit of the Mountains, Spirit of the Sea – bridal style inspiration
Timeless wedding inspiration inspired by my favourite parts of the world: the wild beach of Askam-in-Furness, and the remote fellsides of Great Langdale. We’re thrilled to learn that outdoor weddings can now take place in England – but we do encourage all of you to look into independent celebrants so you can have your wedding ceremony wherever you’d like, not just on licensed premises! Here’s a glimpse of how incredible your anywhere-wedding could be.

I’m incredibly lucky to live on the edge of the Lake District: minutes’ walk from a quiet, wild beach and within sight of England’s highest mountains. This styled wedding photoshoot will always be close to my heart: marrying the fells with the Cumbrian coastline, and with some of my favourite wedding people in the world. I’m a huge believer in letting your surroundings influence the style of your wedding celebrations, and this beautiful blog was inspired by the wild beaches of south Cumbria – my favourite place in the world.

It’s a wonderful idea to incorporate the essence of the places you both love into your wedding day. With the news that you can marry in any licensed outdoor space in England – there are many more options for couples to say their ‘I dos’ in gardens, on lake shores, and beaches… and that’s with a registrar performing the ceremony. I’m a HUGE advocate of private registry office dos followed by celebrant-led weddings. If you want your wedding to be legal, the registrar (or religious) part is important. But after that, you can have a celebrant ceremony literally ANYWHERE you’d like to. Your back garden? Your favourite spot in the woodlands? On a mountain? By a quiet lake? Yep, yep, yep, and YES!
If you love the wildness of nature as much as I do, why not bring it into your wedding celebrations in whatever way you can?
The calligraphy suite I designed for this shoot was inspired by the wildness of the fells – they’re unpredictable, wild and rocky, rugged and breathtakingly beautiful. The scenery here has been the same for centuries, and this timelessness translates as handmade papers, washed out watercolour lettering and organic shapes in calligraphy. I also sketched out a simple line drawing of the mountains for the paper invitation set.
Oobaloos Photography Sheryl’s dramatic photography style and creativity were so perfect for our wild spirited shoot, and I love the way she’s captured both landscapes and tiny details in such intuitively beautiful images. Stefanie Grisdale is a wonderful Lake District make up artist, and joined us for the day to turn Jade into a beautiful Lakeland bride.
We were thrilled to have a bespoke dress by the inimitable and insanely talented Joanne Fleming for our mountainside bridal shoot. Joanne’s creations are intricate, heart-stoppingly beautiful, and the midnight blue layer of lace is just enchanting. Clare Lloyd‘s accessories team with Jo’s gowns as if they’re made for each other.
