Sophie & Gary’s natural, floral and rustic Granary Estates wedding, with Becky Harley Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

A beautiful and relaxed 2019 wedding from our fave, Hertfordshire wedding photographer Becky Harley. Sophie and Gary’s day was elegant and rustic, with divine florals and smiles from beginning to end – it’s wonderful to see joy and crowds at weddings… a sign of the summer to come!

How did you choose your photographer?

We chose our photographer based on the candid documentary style offered. I didn’t want anything posed or staged but natural and laid back. I could see that this was the exact style from our photographer’s galleries.

We were delighted with Becky Harley Photography and couldn’t have asked for anything more! Becky made us feel at ease all day, especially as neither of us are particularly comfortable in front of the camera. Becky had everything under control and made us feel calm and relaxed – our guests thought she was great too!

Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?

We were so excited! I waited until we both got home from work – my husband couldn’t! It brought the whole day back again and it was wonderful to see unseen moments. We were so happy with the finished results!

Natural, floral and rustic

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

Some were recommended by friends/family or the venue

What’s your top tip for saving money?

Do as much yourself as possible. We got married on a weekday to keep costs down but to spend money on areas we found the most important

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

Photography and food and drinks.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

We ordered a template off of Etsy and edited them. We then got them printed and we tied them together ourselves.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Yes but it was a difficult choice still!

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

Flowers were the main decoration. I wanted to keep things as natural as possible so not much decor needed

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

I made and supplied a sweet table, photos and little bits and pieces!

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

Two tier with buttercream frosting and fresh flowers to fit in with the style

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

We hired the City Folk band and had a confetti cannon in the first dance

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Don’t let the wedding become too big and enjoy the planning – the little things don’t matter on the day!

What’s the best thing about being married?

Everything!
