Jo and Tom’s olive & eucalyptus leaf Old Luxters Barn wedding with Linus Moran Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

A stunning wedding from summer 2019… a beautiful couple whose adoring family make their day extra special. We’re in love with the olive leaf confetti, the lovely foliage and pure white styling touches. Jo is stunning in dress by Hayley Paige from Love Bridal Boutique, and Tom’s tailor made Ted Baker suit is absolutely perfect for the occasion. For two camera shy people, this pair are absolutely amazing on their wedding day and we LOVE the images by Dorset wedding photographer and videographer Linus Moran.

How did you choose your photographer?

He had previously shot a wedding at our venue so we found him through their website and we loved his style.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

We were really pleased with Linus, he was lovely to work with and managed to capture some fantastic moments without it feeling like we were being constantly watched. My husband and I are very camera shy and he really made us feel at ease and still get some beautiful photos that we will enjoy forever.
We did not want to spend a long time taking staged photographs and Linus organised these fantastically, they were quick and managed to catch all of our bridal party and family without taking too much time out of the day so we could just sit back and enjoy our wedding day.
If you prefer candid photos to staged ones then Linus is your man, he caught some beautiful moments when nobody realised they were having their photo taken.

Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?

We could not stop smiling, we were worried that we would look nervous in all of them but they were beautiful and caught parts of the whole day that will help us remember it in years to come.

Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?

The most wonderful and fun-filled day with our favourite people.

Your wedding style or theme:

Barn/vineyard wedding with Olive and Eucalyptus leaves everywhere and classic white decorations.

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

Online and recommendations

What’s your top tip for saving money?

Create a list of things that you absolutely will not compromise on and then work out how you can make the rest of your wants a reality in a cheaper way, make your own decorations, use foliage from a nearby forest to help decorate, get bridesmaids dresses from the high street and let your bridesmaids pick them together.

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

The band and the photographer were the most important things for us to spend money on, and the dress of course! These are the big things that really make your day special.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

We ordered our invites from Moo (https://www.moo.com/uk) we designed them ourselves then just got them printed. The table names we made by hand.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Absolutely I wish I could wear it every day.

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

Pepper dress by Hayley Paige from Love Bridal Boutique in Crystal Palace.

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

I grew up in Kenya so I decided to get a tiara made that would reflect that part of my life, a wonderful jewellery designer made me a silver tiara with Maasai beading as a nod to my Kenyan background. She can be found on instagram @kailafuscodesigns, she also made all of my bridesmaids necklaces. I only wore my shoes for about 30 minutes before changing into a comfortable pair of white lace Toms, but the heels were from ASOS. My earrings were from another shop in Kenya called Langata Link.

And what did the groom wear?

He wore a grey tailor made suit from Ted Baker which he got fitted at Moss Bros.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

I found a maxi dress that was the perfect colour for the theme in H&M so they wore those with their own shoes and the necklace made by Kaila. We all made their flower crowns together the night before and morning of the wedding.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Hired an incredible woman called Cat Parnell who did my hair and makeup and also the bridesmaids. She was incredible and I would highly recommend her, her instagram is @unveiluk

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)

An old family friend of ours has opened a lovely flourist shop in Wandsworth called Bramble and Willow- https://www.brambleandwillow.com/
She did all of the flowers and even came to two different locations to drop off bouquets and pinholes before going to the venue. The flowers were unbelievably beautiful, I really didn’t want to throw my bouquet!

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

The barn was very pretty but needed lots of flowers and greenery to bring it to life, we also put up white paper lanterns from IKEA in the roof and lots of candles.

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

We made our place names and provided table games on each of the tables that were hand picked to suit the guests on those tables to keep them entertained whilst the food was coming out.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

We had a carrot cake made by my bridesmaid Jess as our wedding cake and a fruit cake topper made by Tom’s Aunt Tanya which we froze and recently ate for our one year anniversary.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

We had a band which I would always recommend, we didn’t want the night to end and all the guests sat on the floor chanting “one more song” when the band were finished. They were fantastic, called the Jacks https://www.music8agency.co.uk/the-jacks-folk-pop.html

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Take time out during the day to spend time with your partner and take in the whole day, otherwise the whole thing can just fly by. Don’t feel like you have to talk to every single guest there, just focus on the present moment and don’t get bothered by any of the little things that might go wrong.

What’s the best thing about being married?

Having your best friend with you all the time and facing the world together as a family.
