Introducing… Heulwen Lewis Bespoke engagement and wedding jewellery

Published by Claire Gould on

Hello
I’m Sarah. I specialise in designing and creating beautiful custom-made engagement and wedding jewellery.

A romantic at heart

I’ve always been a romantic. For me, creativity and relationships are all part of the same thing. As a two-year-old watching my grampa paint, I couldn’t wait to pick up a brush — just a few years later we were painting portraits side-by-side. Beading pieces of my Nan’s broken jewellery was another passion. I don’t know what I loved more — spending time together or being creative — but to this day, the warm feeling I get when creating a sentimental piece inspires me.

Designing and creating wedding and engagement rings was a natural specialism for me. I feel privileged to be a part of such a special time, knowing my creation will be cherished, loved and worn forever. With every journey, from design to finished piece, my heart grows and believes in love just that little bit more. What could be more special than that?

Experience

I launched Heulwen Lewis Bespoke in 2017 after 11 years in the Fine Jewellery Trade. Career highlights include a Distinction in my MA in Fashion Artefacts from The London College of Fashion, winning the Lonmin Award for Innovative Design and being featured in Parisian Vogue. I learned a lot from a stint as Head Designer at Kings Hill Jewellers in St Albans. As a CAD designer, I acquired an extensive knowledge of bench and setting. But it has been founding Heulwen Lewis Bespoke that has meant the most. It’s allowed me to focus on the part of the process that I love the most: working with couples to create bespoke engagement and wedding rings which capture their sentiment and vision.

Different styles

For me, it’s about creating heirlooms that will last a lifetime. Sometimes this comes in the form of an original design — contemporary, vintage or classic in style — using newly sourced metals and stones.

Other times, couples ask me to create engagement rings using old stones or vintage pieces, remodelled to suit personal tastes. I feel lucky to work with these treasures and love passing this luck on with my version of ‘something old, something new’.

Recently, I’ve loved helping a groom who wanted to propose to his fiancée using his mum’s wedding ring. Sadly his mum had passed away, so finding a way to make her a part of his big day was an honour. We decided to melt the gold from her wedding ring for his wedding band and use the stones to make a wedding set for his fiancée. This way, his mum’s ring touched both of their hearts. When he proposed, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Often I’m asked to create bespoke wedding ring sets for the couple to complement their engagement piece too!
