Modern Medieval Magic – bridal editorial

Published by Claire Gould on

It’s rather lovely to be sharing a styled wedding shoot with a family focus – today’s images sent in by lovely Pudding & Plum Photography are all the more special for the little face alongside the bride and groom! I know so many of you will be thinking of ways to involve your children at your wedding, and this beautiful shoot includes a little bridesmaid from the very beginning. You know what? It makes me smile SO much – her happy little grin is just adorable! The styling by Worsley Creative is brimming with ideas for you to take away: the cake and treats look divine; the dress is dreamy as anything. And the FLORALS… I have no words! You will LOVE this!

The urban landscape of sprawling Salford may not be an immediate choice of location for a romantic wedding shoot with its busy streets and industrial vibe but look closer and you will discover some medieval magic amid the metropole. Ordsall Hall dates back as far as 1177 and provides a striking setting for combining contemporary romance with historic grandeur and drama.

The palette selected was designed to fuse the warm tones of the historic building with contemporary pastels, accented with gold to highlight the opulence of the occasion. The use of a peach hue links back to fashion history where wearing or decorating using yellows and orange tones symbolised luxury, wealth and happiness. The overall effect when combined with the mint tones, ivory accents and use of the gold metallic then brings it bang up to date for the 2020 bride and groom.

We hoped to deliver demure and sensational in the same breath – as is evident in our stunning Jenny Packham gown named ‘Juniper’ with its plunging neckline yet floaty capped sleeves. We followed the theme of ‘feast’ through the dessert table heaped with delicious bites, onto an abundance of roses on the flower arch and through to the details of the meal being titled Feast. There are many nods to the pride and identity of the region such as the bee on the wax seal, the Gin Bar serving locally made drinks as well as having the same name as the dress and the venue being a Grade 1 listed Tudor Manor.

We wished to show couples how you can have both modern and medieval in one space and how a darker venue need not lack colour or glamour. We also wanted to show that yellow gold is back and even with a brighter palette there is still a wealth of sophistication to be had. We wanted couples to be able to quite literally feast on our images and ideas, to enjoy the luxurious textures of the ribbons, materials, hand-torn paper and foliage. There is no one grand item, we aimed to show that your wedding day is a sum of all the beautiful parts you put together. In the end, all your smaller, well thought out, quality pieces will result in a perfectly styled wedding.
