Laura & Daryl’s festival wedding – Inglefest! Joss Denham Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

Hey lovelies! Welcome to Monday… and to a fabulous festival wedding in June at Northside Farm, Northumberland. This is a beautiful barn venue with glamping huts & tipis for brides, grooms and guests can stay in. Gorgeous bride Laura and dapper hubby Daryl enjoy their festivals, and with TONS of wonderful handcrafting. Laura worked on her wedding stationery almost every night for a YEAR! She also learned how to crochet so she could make blankets for her guest in case they got cold in the evening! Laura describes their wedding as “3 days of pure joy and happiness” – and it shows in the pics. I hope you love all these ideas as much as I do!

“From before we were even engaged I had the theme of our wedding picked out. Daryl and I enjoy a festival and we knew we wanted to have a wedding over the full weekend and spend as much time celebrating with all our family and friends. (I’m the kind of person who has a birth month not a birthday) The wedding venue (Northside Farm) allowed us to do just that in a beautiful setting. They were very laid back like us and just let us do our thing.”

I went through a list of north east wedding photographers, then looked on all the websites and followed a few on social media until I came across Joss and we felt his style would suit us and produce beautiful photos

I couldn’t be happier with Joss and his photos. I was very conscious not to have our day dictated by the photos and Joss was perfect. He fit in perfectly around our timings and other than the very small allotted time slots we allowed him he captured everything perfectly with out me or many of the guests noticing he was around. In the small time frame we gave him and working with 2 people who aren’t comfortable in front of a camera or very good at displaying affection in front of people he has captured some absolutely stunning shots of us.

Joss emailed me a wedding slideshow at work. I immediately had to stop all work to look through it. Most of the women I work with had been begging me to see the photos so we were all huddled round my desk. I couldn’t believe how many there were and how every moment was captured never mind the fact I actually liked photos of myself!

Your wedding style or theme:

The theme was loosely festival themed but we mainly cared about it being fun and relaxed.

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

I found most the suppliers we used via social media

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

I made all my own stationery, I started early and worked on it almost every night for a year!

What’s your top tip for saving money?

If its on paper make it yourself!

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

The entertainment – that’s what everyone is still talking about and creates the incredible atmosphere

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

absolutely. I only tried 3 on and the one I bought was the third. I knew then I didn’t need to buy any more

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

I got the dress from Katherine Trueman Bridal – I am unsure on the designer

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

My bracelet and ear rings were from a small local jewellers and my necklace was Swarovski. My shoes were a cheapy from ebay as I only had them on for the aisle and changed into flip flops then my pink Dr martens

And what did the groom wear?

The groom wore marc darcy suits from Hotspur 1364 in alnwick – best suit shop around: Lisa who works there is incredible.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

The girls wore a mixture of miss guided dresses and some from a store on amazon.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

My sister and nieces are professional hair stylists and make up artists. They styled me and all the bridesmaids as well as being bridesmaids themselves

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)

My flowers were all origami and I made 90% of them myself before calling in a little help from my friends. I arranged them myself including a flower arch, 3 rings and the bouquets.

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

The venue is stunning – it didn’t need much décor added.

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

if I could make it myself I did, I am very crafty so made a lot. I made invites, table numbers, flowers, toffee apples for favours. I even learnt to crochet so I could make blankets in case people got cold.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

I had no input in the wedding cake. My brothers girlfriends dad makes wedding cakes and I completely trusted in Amy (my brothers partner) to instruct her dad on something. I had absolute confidence in her and she did not let me down. The cake looked incredible and tasted so too

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

Through the day I had Scott Kiers a guitarist and singer. His voice is amazing and he is such a lovely guy, he learnt our song request everlong by foo fighters for me to walk down the aisle to. We loved him so much we had his band back on the Sunday Funday part of our wedding. On the Saturday night we had Hip Operation. These guys were amazing no one can talk about our wedding with out discussing them, they came out onto the dance floor, got involved and created an atmosphere I have never experienced before. My maid of honour song our first dance which made it so special.

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Don’t stress, even when things don’t go as planned no one will notice. I didn’t take my wedding ring to the ceremony and borrowed my sister’s on the day. It added some laughs for those who knew and the day went smoothly for those out of the loop.

What’s the best thing about being married?

Gaining a second family.
