“The Venue – Monks Withecombe in Devon – is owned by Nicky and Simon who are just wonderful people, so welcoming. Tea and coffee were flowing and we were made so welcome. The venue is formed of an art gallery (ceremony room), and a corn barn for the reception. A floral feast of a courtyard surrounded by formal gardens, a spectacular orchard and a glorious field over looking the vast stretch that is Dartmoor. More than that, the special things that caught my eye were the rickety old door, the hand picked sweet peas from the garden and the dry petal confetti.
Everything was so wonderfully relaxed and hand made. The true definition of a DIY wedding. The family and couple spent the week decorating the venue, making signs and props and wonderful decorations. Fairy lights were everywhere and it was truly beautiful. Metal buckets of wild heather were hung on the seats framing the aisle. Recycled bottles were used as vases for the wild flower centre piece. A beautiful barely there iced cake and of course the most stunning dress, with gorgeous back detail.
Lisa spent the night at Monks Withecombe in such a gorgeous character filled room and this is where the bridal prep happened. Whist she was getting ready, a herd of sheep ran past the window! Rural luxury at its best.
The weather was just perfect. A beautifully sunny day allowing the guests to meander across the field and chill out on the hay bales. As late afternoon approached it was time for some bride & groom portraiture, we wandered around the venue taking in our surroundings and Lisa and Rob revelled in their newlywed bliss. We headed in to the orchard to make use of the stunning sunlight through the trees and boy did it deliver! Stripes of light fell upon the couple and they embraced it. We popped off for another quick session at sunset. Again we made the most of the gorgeous light and I made use of my copper pipe for some ring of fire action.
