Stef & James’s cute, fun and quirky Archbishop’s Palace wedding, with Helen England Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

I just love this wedding to bits. It’s SO pretty – all the flowers, the exquisitely crafted wedding cake, and Stef’s adorable dress (and the way she LOVES wearing it!) – they’re the loveliest couple and I have been so excited to share their wedding with you on the English Wedding Blog!

The flowers from Blue Daisies Florist were the main decoration. We had collected loads of vases which were all different styles and shapes – the florist then displayed these everywhere in the room so wherever you were all you could see was our spring blooms!! I was so pleased with our flowers – they were beautiful and the room just smelt amazing…. everywhere you looked there were flowers. The colours were perfect.

I found Helen’s details on a local wedding website, she was a recommended photographer. I visited her website and spent ages looking at her gallery and reading her blog and fell in love with her style. Her pictures looked natural but picked up on small details that made each wedding individual…. I just loved her pictures and just hoped she would be available for our wedding day!!

We were absolutely over the moon with our photos, they were beautiful. Helen made James and I both really comfortable when we having our pictures taken and it was such a giggle. One of my favourite memories of the day is of us in the Herb Garden, it was just the two of us and Helen. I absolutely love some of pictures she took at that time, she really captured our happiness and excitement of just getting married.

We went to Helen’s house and we spoke about the day over a glass of bubbly and then watched a slideshow she had prepared showing all the pictures. We had avoided looking at other people’s pictures before seeing our official photos, as didn’t want to take anything away from seeing the official photos for the first time. So pleased we did this as the excitement we both felt at the seeing the official photos was brilliant and the impact of seeing so many pictures of our wedding for the first time was quite emotional.

What’s your top tip for saving money?

Spend the money on the aspects that are important to you.

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

Flowers – I also wanted a room full of flowers and spent months collecting vintage glass vases that were scattered all around the room…. the smell was absolutely breathtaking.
Wedding Favours – they had a Spring Garden theme….. for all of the female guests we had personalised boxes made which we filled with garden related treats…. flower seed bombs, personalised wild flower seed packs, bird seed in cute glass jars and beeswax candle. It was great fun making up these boxes and putting the favours together. It was fantastic to see everyone’s reaction to the favours and it’s been great fun seeing everyone growing their seeds.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

Knots & Kisses – to match our spring floral theme we personalised the colour of our stationery and had pastel pink flowers on everything – even on the envelope lining!!

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

I always wanted a Tea Length Wedding Dress – I was recommended Cutting Edge Brides, as they specialised in this style of dress.
As soon as I tried on my dress I knew that was one, I just adored the dress it was perfect.

Lucy Jayne Make Up – I hired a professional and she did the Brides & Brides Mothers make up.

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

We made the letter box for our wedding cards – we styled it as a vintage post box great fun and we were both so pleased with the end result.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

Shelley Cakes – we had a 3 tier ivory cake again with clusters of pink flowers and lace and ribbon. We also had 12 individual mini cakes which we gave to our guests – they were beautiful.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

At the end of the night the guest were given a personalised bag which contained the individual mini cakes and a bag of Easter Sweets because of the time of year of the wedding.
