Ideas junkies… we need you! Today’s beautiful English country garden wedding has so many amazing ideas to Pin, share and get inspired by… you’re going to love this (and you absolutely mustn’t miss it!) Seb and Lisa’s day is sublime… and every smile, moment and detail is perfect.
“We wanted an English country garden wedding. We wanted all our guests to be relaxed & enjoy the day as much as we knew we would. We didn’t want anything too formal. We just wanted a big party with everyone that we love.
“Our flowers were provided by the brilliant Ange & her team at Cottage Flowers, Ilmimster. Ange was so helpful from the very first time we met, she knew the style that we wanted & came up with the most beautiful ideas & arrangements!
“Old Bridge is amazing as the marquee & grounds are a blank canvas for you to style as you wish, and this was what we wanted, we wanted to be able to bring our personality into the venue. Me & my bridemaids made 150 metres of bunting!!! We bought props from reclamation yards & styled the whole venue ourself. We bought some amazing giant balloons which me & my bridesmaids used for some gorgeous photos & they doubled as decoration in the marquee.
We designed & made all of our own stationery, from the save the dates, invites, table & place names. We bought all the paper & card from Razzle Dazzle Rose, used our local printers to help print the text & then we bought old fashioned typewriter stamps & created them all from scratch!
Images of the day are by Laura Cullen Photography. “We were over the moon with our wedding photos. Each photo captured everything & more, from the details at the venue, bridal prep, those special moments with family & friends & of course, the photos of us, she captured everything in such a classy & personal style. She is simply amazing!”

Wedding photographer’s website:
How did you choose your photographer?
We chose Laura because we love her work, her relaxed approach to the style of photos, how easy she made us feel & it was an added bonus that she is also our very close friend!
Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?
We were able to have a sneak peek at a few of the photos before they were all ready. We couldn’t wait as we knew Laura’s work was amazing! Seeing the photos brought all the amazing memories back of our most special day, it felt like we were reliving it! There were even photos of parts of the day that we had forgotten about!

Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?
It’s so hard, we could talk about the day all day long, but to summarise… Truly the best day of our lives!
Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)
I was recommended to Kate Walker, where I purchased my wedding dress from friends, she has the best reputation. Kate works closely with Kim at Abidemaid, who made our beautiful bridesmaids dresses. The florists, Cottage Flowers, Ilminster are are amazing local florists & came highly recommended. We were lucky to come across our caterers at a previous event & we knew we had to use them – so yummy! The band were also local & again, recommended. All of our suppliers were local with great reputations, that was very important to us.
What’s your top tip for saving money?
Budget, budget, budget! We made a huge saving by designing & making all our own wedding stationery. We also bought all the alcohol for the day when the deals were on at the supermarket! The cost of hiring props was crazy, so we made our own & hunted through reclamation yards to find unique pieces.
… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?
The photographer, without a doubt. There are so many special memories that happen throughout the day & your photographer can capture all of these so you have that memory forever! Also, as big foodies, the food was important to us & we knew this would always be one of the most expensive things, but so worth it!
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
Yes, yes & yes! It was my dream dress. I had so many compliments on it. I really felt like the best possible version of me as soon as I put it on. I still open the bag most weeks & admire it!
Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:
My dress was Ali by Augusta Jones and I purchased it from Kate Walker, Honiton. Kate makes the whole process of finding your dress so special & so personal. She really cared about how I felt & wanted a wanted from a dress. I recommend her to everyone!
Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!
I wore no accessories apart from fresh flowers in my hair, I wanted a boho style but still traditional. I don’t wear a lot of jewellery normally so I thought, why change that for the wedding day? My shoes were a plain nude pair from Next. Seb wore his Bullova watch which I bought him as a wedding present.
And what did the groom wear?
Seb’s suit and shirt was from Reiss. His shoes were from River Island.
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
My girls wore the most stunning dresses from Kim at Abidemaid. They were a dusky pink colour & were all a slightly different style to suit the girls, I wanted them to feel happy & comfortable. Our flower girl was our best friend’s little girl & Kim made her a mini version of her mum’s dress – it was the cutest dress I’ve ever seen!
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
My make-up was by the brilliant Elle Hitchens, she is a genius!! My mum & my bridesmaids all had their make-up done by Elle as well. It was such a lovely treat. My fiend Hollie Davis did our hair, she is the best.
Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?
Yes, we loved making everything, the stationery, the bunting, the guest book & finding all our own trinkets to decorate the venue. Me & the girls had so much fun making the bunting, even though it was such a relief when we finished!
The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?
We wanted a simple but stunning cake & we knew Charlotte Martin would be able to create this for us. She is so talented & her cakes are delicious. She hand painted flowers on to the cake & finished it off with fresh flowers. The flavours were carrot cake & white chocolate & raspberry!
Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?
We had our local ice cream man, Mr Whirly, arrive after the main course in his van. He arrived with his song playing & all the children ran out. We were lucky to have a sunny summer’s day so the ice cream went down so well. Seb even hopped in the van & served all our guests!
Our evening band were The Leggomen & they kept everyone dancing all night long!
Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:
Don’t stress, everything will fall into place. I started planning early & I really believe this is the best way, everything that I could control (I was constantly checking the weather!) was well planned so I knew that we could relax the week before & enjoy every second! And all those little things that you worry about… don’t! The most important thing is that you’re marrying your best friend & as long as you have your friends & family around you that’s all that matters!
What’s the best thing about being married?
We feel so blessed to be married, we are the very best of friends & thought we could not be happier but now we’re husband & wife we’re happier than ever. It is such a lovely feeling. I love saying that I’m married & I have a husband!
