I’m a country girl – I left, once, and I will never move away again. There’s something magical in every breath of fresh air, every step across grass and sand and muddy track. Nothing beats the views across hills and fells, to forests and fields. Nothing. So country weddings are my thing; and country themed photo shoots make my heart sing!
Today I have two shoots in one: an engagement shoot followed swiftly by some creative wedding ideas – all focused around the countryside. The images are divine – they’re by top wedding photographers Lisa Aldersley and Nichola Morton, both at Aspire.
Styling is by Aspire’s lovely Yasmin, calligraphy is by me (and can be found in my Etsy shop). The gorgeous couple are totally in love and I just can’t put into words how much I adore the romance of the images… have an engagement shoot, everyone!

Styling a romantic country wedding
The team at Aspire have the most wonderfully intuitive vision for wedding styling – every shoot they dream up is full of ideas I love – and I put it down to their perfect little base in the Cumbrian countryside. The ideas for this shoot combine strong colours with striking calligraphy, contrasting bold and romantic pieces with the dreamiest of dresses and the most incredible locations…
To achieve the same look for your wedding, use rich colours and splurge on a statement bouquet. Choose a soft, bohemian dress (and don’t feel pressure to have a ‘wedding dress’ – there are some fabulous gowns out there which don’t come from bridal boutiques!)
Style your tables with contrasting stationery, and impress your guests with a few key pieces. Country weddings don’t have to be huge celebrations – if you opt for an intimate wedding your budget for stationery and styling will go further!
We sprayed pears with gold paint and pinned dinky place name tags onto each one as place settings. Places were set with autumnal coloured plates and chargers; vintage cutlery and feathers completed the countryside look of the tables.
Thanks as ever to everyone at Aspire Photography Training for inviting me to send and share my calligraphy bits and pieces – and for giving me the loveliest pics of my work to share. You’re the best!
