Squeeeeeal!!! Today’s wedding is a little bit like living inside a rainbow. There are as many colours as there are surprises, as many glorious details as there are moments and smiles and beautiful memories. I honestly don’t know where to begin!
Lucy and Dan are the loveliest couple, with their own super sense of style and outfits which reflect their personalities (which are, clearly, awesome!) to a T. Their day is styled for a summer fete, with lots of DIY ideas to inspire you all, and was put together with lots of help from friends and family.
Images are by lovely Berkshire wedding photographer Benjamin Stuart, who got in touch after I’d seen his sneak peek of the wedding on Facebook. Thank you Ben!!! You can find out more about Ben here:
Scroll down to see rainbow cake, an aerobatic display, paper poms, bouncy castles, summer fete games, a ridiculously gorgeous bride and groom, and a first dance which took my breath away. Enjoy.

Wedding photographer’s website:
How did you choose your photographer?
Lucy dances with Ben’s wife Zoë and we saw some friends’ engagement shoot, and loved the look and style of Ben’s work. After meeting with Ben we both felt happy with his approach and he was on board with all of our ideas.
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!
Delighted! Our family and friends loved him on the day, he built brilliant rapport with our guests, and seamlessly fitted into the day.
Tell us about the moment you saw your wedding photos for the first time?
We found it very exciting and it brought back all of the happy memories of the day. Including all of the little details that might have been easily forgotten about.

What’s your top tip for saving money?
Know what you want, and stick to your vision/plan
Haggle with suppliers to get the best deal
Be prepared to compromise certain aspects of the wedding to allow you to splash out on the things you really want.
You don’t have to have wedding favours – we didn’t and nobody missed them.
… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?
Our surprise elements – Aerobatic display, both our Dads are keen plane enthusiasts and Fireworks set to Louis Armstrong’s “What a wonderful world”. It finished the day off with a bang!
Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?
We designed with a friend who is a graphic designer

Of course! Everyone told me how perfectly the dress suited me and the day.

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
Absolutely! As we hired a village hall we had do all the decorating. Thank goodness for the friends and family who helped us put it all up and get it back down again afterwards
Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?
Hand made signs, lovingly decorated by Lucy over a few months.
The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?
To fit in with the colourful theme of the day we decided on a two tier cake. The bottom tier was a yummy coconut sponge with raspberry jam. The top tier was a six layered rainbow cake – which really impressed when it was cut. It must have been tasty as well as there was none left after an hour!
Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?
Lots! We started with sports day races, had an aerobatics display, a face painter, a bouncy castle, a bbq, an ice cream van, fully choreographed first dance and fireworks set to music. Keeping the guests entertained and having fun throughout the day was really important to us.
On the day tips and advice:
If you are going to hire a venue that doesn’t have any staff – Make sure you employ a couple of co-ordinators to work in the background who will keep the day ticking over.
Make sure you take time to step away from the crowds and look at the wedding from the outside to really appreciate what you’ve created.
The day can be long for guests so make sure there is plenty to see and do. It also helps break the ice between different groups of friends and family
People like surprises, so keep some of the details of the day secret.
What’s the best thing about being married?
Its to early to say at the moment, but we are looking forward to finding out.
