I can imagine today’s beautiful bride and gorgeous groom hand-delivering invites on their bicycles… probably because of the charming, quirky bicycle table plan and their thrifty tips for saving on postage! Danielle and Danny are fantastic: full of ideas and inspiring advice, and I know you’ll adore their wedding.
The venue is Cheshire’s fabulous Rookery Hall; the images are by Liverpool wedding photographer David Walters. Highlights of today’s real wedding include a divine bouquet with hydrangeas and lots of lush greenery. I adore the portrait images in the grounds of Rookery Hall and the rustic touches Danny and Danielle added to personalise the venue.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?
Without a doubt, yes. From the first time we met David we knew it was meant to be. He is laid back, fun and put us at ease straight away, we knew he would fit in perfectly with our wedding and our guests, and he didn’t disappoint.
David captures the relaxed, exciting, natural, emotional pictures of the people you love, the way you want to remember them. We had a group shot and a couple of formal family shots, which David herded and organised without a hitch, he’s got the personality to be heard within the crowd and keep everyone smiling and laughing, it was quick and definitely painless. We wanted to focus on getting images of people enjoying themselves, the people we love being natural and that’s what David delivered, but as well as this we wanted a few of those special photographs of just the two of us, the ones you look at and hardly believe are you. David delivered on all fronts and we couldn’t have been happier with the photos.
David was unobtrusive, making us laugh and really enjoy ourselves, who would have thought from a pair who hate photographs! The final photos were amazing, more than we expected.
If you want a photographer who is down to earth, professional, adaptable, and someone who will just blend into your guests capturing all the special moments, David is the perfect choice.

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?
Our wedding was laid back and relaxed, with a brilliant party to end the night.
What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?
Shock! We couldn’t quite believe that it was us and our guests. The photos were magically and captured all the special moments. Seeing the moments that we had missed personally, really brought the day to life.
Your wedding style or theme:
Our theme was “natural” with a few tandom bicycles thrown in.
How long did you spend planning your wedding?
We probably had about 2 years to plan our wedding, but the major planning definitely occurred in the last 6 months.
Best bit of budget advice?
Write everything down and have a spreadsheet of budget and actual costs. It allows you to keep control and not let costs spiral out of control. Neither of us had even been to a wedding before, so make sure you Google and speak to people about what you should budget for, we forgot a few of the essentials like the registrar!
Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:
We designed and had printed all our own stationery and tried to hand deliver most of our invites. This definitely saved us money in the long run – just use your imagination.
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
I would say yes. When I put it on, it just felt right. I felt comfortable and felt like me. I had been dreading going wedding dress shopping as I must admit I’ve never been a fan of wedding dresses per-se, I am more of a jeans person, but I found the one and I loved it.
Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:
My wedding dress was from Berketex Brides in Manchester.
Glitz and sparkle – the bride’s accessories:
I wanted to keep my jewellery to a minimum, so I only had a hairpiece. I didn’t want to distract from my dress.
Suited and booted – the groom wore:
The groom wore a traditional tails suit with a low cut grey waistcoat and some very dapper shoes. We hired the suit from “Groom” and splashed out on the shoes.
Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?
My bridemaids wore some very special long Karen Millen dresses which I got as a bargain from an outlet shop. I loved them and was slightly jealous I couldn’t wear it myself. I will definitely be borrowing one in the future!
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
I had my mum do my make-up, but hired a professional to do my hair and the rest of the bridal parties.
My wedding flowers were amazing. Eventures were the company who supplied them, along with the table centrepieces. I had really just given them a brief of a hand tied bouquet and a natural theme and I loved the finished product. The bouquets were so heavy!
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
The venue didn’t need much styling just the finishing touches, It had an amazing view out over rolling fields so it was just a matter of adding our personal touches. We didn’t want to take away from the view, but add to the atmosphere.
DIY – tell us about any handcrafted elements of your wedding…
We designed and printed our own invites, table plan and name cards, all with a tandem bicycle theme in natural colours.
The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?
Traditional with personalised toppers that looked like us, and a tandem bike!
We had the most amazing live band in the evening. I would recommend live music to everyone. The band was called Madison (http://www.madisonparty.co.uk). They were that good we booked them again for a family party a few months ago! The dance floor was never empty and people could not stop talking about them for weeks afterwards.
On the day tips and advice:
Relax and have fun. Try and spend some quality time with your new Husband, however short. We both really enjoyed the time we spent with David getting our more posed photographs. I would recommend this to anyone, it was the only time in the day we could just enjoy being with each other and be our normal selves, no one to talk to and check they were enjoying themselves. You get pulled in so many directions on the day, you find you spend very little time actually together, so this must have been one of my favourite parts of the day, and it produced some very special images. David made us feel so comfortable that it felt like it was just the two of us!
I would also recommend having a videographer, our video is so special and every time we watch it you notice something new about the day. We had Aaron Rose as our videographer, and like David we would recommend them to anyone. Also it was Matt from Aaron Rose who recommended David to us, so we have something else to thank him for.
What’s the best thing about being married?
Knowing that I get to spend everyday with my best friend.
