Hilary and Taher’s quintessentially English wedding in Ilkley, with Suzy Mitchell Photography

We’re soooo discovering theatres as fabulous wedding reception spaces in England now, and I LOVE them all! Hilary and Taher were married in Yorkshire with their reception at the King’s Hall and Winter Garden – a fabulous space with tons of character.

They’re a gorgeous and stylish couple. Hilary’s dress is divine – a unique designer number by the incredibly talented Astral Sundholm. Hilary told me she fell in love with Astral as well as with her beautiful dress!

Hilary told me the best thing about being married is “Being able to look back at a wonderful wedding, and look forward to a beautiful future.” So shall we have a look at those gorgeous wedding photos ourselves? They’re by wonderful Yorkshire wedding photographer Suzy Mitchell:

Our wedding story: Taher and Hilary

Wedding photographer’s website:

http://www.suzy-mitchell.com/

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?

Yes. Suzy Mitchell was amazing! She also used a second photographer (Susie Lawrence); to capture the boys getting ready, as well as different angles in the church.

Wedding venue:

The wedding was at St. Margaret’s church, Ilkley. It was a stunning building, and the vicar was very understanding and open minded. The reception, wedding breakfast and evening was held at the King’s Hall and Winter Garden, Ilkley. This is a place that you need to see dressed up to appreciate its beauty and grandeur. To get about, we had vintage cars supplied by KookyCars and a London bus to transport our guests supplied and decorated by Geldards coaches.

Wedding date:

27th September 2014.

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?

A fun, elegant, and quintessentially English wedding; with an Egyptian vein.

What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?

Stunned at the quality of the photos, and how well they captured the day.

Your wedding style or theme:

There was no theme. It was all about us and our guests having a great time.

How long did you spend planning your wedding?

18 months.

Best bit of budget advice?

You get what you pay for. Work with people who understand you, so you don’t waste time and money on things you will later reject or regret.

Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:

Active Print Solutions. They did everything from the save the dates and the invites to the table plan and table name cards, to the thank you cards. They were excellent.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

I fell in love with both the dress and Astral, the designer. The dress is unique with special features that allowed me to adjust it to my changing requirements throughout the day. When I saw an aspect of another dress that I liked, Astral just incorporated it into mine. I felt so special in it, and I don’t think I’ve ever looked so beautiful.

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

The wedding dress designer was Astral Sundholm. She owns her own boutique, Circa Brides, so provides a very personal service.

Glitz and sparkle – the bride’s accessories:

I kept it very simple, as the dress was amazing. The only accessories were a blue hair clip from Beau Monde,Ilkley; shoes from Moda in Pelle; and my mum’s vintage sapphire ring.

Suited and booted – the groom wore:

A lovely navy blue three-piece suit from Eric Spencer, Ilkley. They were very patient and helpful. The shoes, cufflinks, and pocket square were from Moss Bros. You would have thought that Moss Bros would know how to hire things, but sadly not!

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

The dresses were from Ghost. They were the Salma dresses also in navy blue.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Philip, from Joseph Bespoke Hairdressing in Ilkley. He made the morning fun and relaxed.

Wedding flowers:

Vanessa Wellock at Wildflowers. She provided flowers for the church and the button holes were delivered fresh on the morning at the hotel. We just gave her general ideas, but she sorted out the specifics. The flowers transformed the space at the venue.

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

The venue was a winter garden and theatre. They provided the tables and chairs, main and spot lighting, table linen, and red carpet. We hired in festoon lighting, chair covers, a checkerboard dance floor, and the flowers (LOTS of flowers!!!). The original festoon lighting company (wedding venue lighting) had double booked us, and we only found out because we called them with about 72h notice! The company we eventually used (AV Matrix Ltd.) were slick and professional, as were the companies that supplied the chair covers and dance floor.

DIY – tell us about any handcrafted elements of your wedding…

The table plan was a big photo frame with 16 slots of varied sizes. Each table had the guests listed, and placed in a different slot.

The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?

Betty’s, Ilkley. The cake was a simple three tier design. The top tier was a fruit cake, and the other tiers were made up of fondant fancies. There was a handcrafted 3D spray of sweet pea flowers (sugar work) spilling down one side, and an individual 3D sweet pea flower on each fondant fancy to compliment the main spray. Betty’s also made our favours, which doubled as place settings, as they were heart shaped butter biscuits with their first names written in water icing.

Entertainment:

Func on the rocks. The singer Cherie Gears and the band were the talk of the evening. With their additional brass section, and their DJ who played music during their interval, they were outstanding.

On the day tips and advice:

Enjoy yourself. Keep perspective and a sense of humor. Don’t worry if the guests are enjoying themselves, because they are!

What’s the best thing about being married?

Being able to look back at a wonderful wedding, and look forward to a beautiful future.
