Hello everyone! I have a feature today which is lovely, and very seasidey-beachy (which is perfect for me living by the seaside)… and an interesting feature from an industry point of view. It’s a lot to take in, I know! But there’s something for everyone here and I hope you’ll find it interesting as well as beautiful!
A beach bridal shoot – Skegness in winter!
Wedding photographer Kev Elkins got in touch to share some images from his beach bridal shoot with us on the English Wedding Blog. He told me he’d been approached by a US dress retailer in December. They offered to send one of their dresses for use in a photoshoot (out of the blue!) and shipped a dress across to the UK for the occasion. Kev then asked one of his real brides to model the dress for a shoot on Skegness beach – and she’s beautiful, and shows how simple and gorgeous a little white dress can be!
The images are gorgeous – the light on the beach is fantastic, and I adore those endless open skies and vast expanses of sand… truly, this is a wonderful advertisement for nipping down to the beach on your wedding day!
Affordable wedding dresses from the US
Brides – if you’re on a budget then this could be really interesting to you – the dress featured in this beach bridal shoot is from Simply Bridal, a US online retailer with a huge selection of wedding dresses, all at low prices.
There really is everything to choose from on the Simply Bridal website – dresses in every shape and style you could imagine – and all very affordable. If you’re looking for a simple design, a wearable shape and I think especially something cute and fun and trendy, then you should definitely have a look at their selection. It’ll take you a good half hour or more to scroll through them all, and that’s if you’re only skim-reading!
But be warned: while they have some lovely-looking dresses on their website, and everything from sleek little 60s numbers to Grecian gowns… they have more than their fair share of full-on meringues and eye-popping prom dress styles. It’s worth taking the time to browse their collections, but occasionally your eyes will cry real tears at the sights you’ll see. There are ruffles and then some. Shiny, princess dresses? Take your pick! Just saying! Kev was lucky he got a sweet little white dress for his shoot…
Simply Bridal’s curious approach to wedding marketing in 2015
In Kev’s blog post from the shoot he says he was, “to be honest, a bit skeptical of the whole thing.”
I don’t blame him: a free dress for a photoshoot? A random approach from a company on the other side of the world? It does seem a little odd… but when I think of how the internet is becoming sooooo image-led, it makes a LOT of sense.
I’m working on a feature about bridal shoots and styled shoots as inspiration – a subject I’ve touched on before on the English Wedding Blog. Many modern wedding businesses are taking every opportunity to collaborate on styled shoots – I know I am. It’s a great way of getting amazing images onto Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook and wedding blogs.
I wonder: will this catch on? Should we all be sending freebies to photographers for use in styled shoots? It’s a very interesting approach, and it seems to be working for Simply Bridal!
