There’s so much I love about Katie and Kevin’s wedding: their effortless style and choice of a glamorous, vintage inspired theme, their focus on friends and family… Katie describes their wedding in Lancashire as “An amazing party filled with love and laughter surrounded by the people we love the most!”
And then there’s Katie’s beautiful Charlotte Balbier designer wedding dress, from The White Closet in Didsbury. What a stunning bride, and what a magical celebration. As we enjoy a little chilly weather this month, it’s the perfect time to share this beautiful winter wedding with you. The images are by lovely Zoe at ZT Photography, who gets a glowing review from the bride and groom in their wedding report at the end of the feature!
Katie and Kevin: a glitzy, Hollywood vintage inspired wedding in Lancashire

Wedding photographer’s website:
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?
The wedding photographer for us was the most important decision, I have seen so many wedding photographs where all of the pictures look exactly the same and I really didn’t want this for us. My sister actually got married the year before and as her chief bridesmaid I had supported her in spending hours scouring the internet etc for photographers. This is where we came across ZT Photography, instantly we were amazed by the photographs. They were all so individual! Needless to say my sister booked Zoe and after seeing the results I knew that I needed to do the same…..which of course I did!!
What I feel is great about ZT Photography is that from the first moment you meet Zoe you feel at ease….I actually felt like I had known her for ages after only one meeting?! This then obviously made the whole process of having photographs taken so easy… (Not that I’ve ever been camera shy!! Kevin on the other hand hates having his picture taken…looking at the photos you would never have guessed!) That for me is what makes ZT Photography so special and the amazing talent that they clearly have. I look at the pictures and they reflect the day and our personalities perfectly.

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?
What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?
We were so excited to see the photographs. I was literally checking the website everyday waiting for them to be uploaded. When we saw them for the first time we were stunned….they were perfect! Just as we had imagined, they tell the story of the day so well and are a real reminder of what a fantastic day we all had.
Your wedding style and theme:
We wanted the day to be very relaxed and laid back, we had visited The Alma Inn a few times and instantly we knew that this was the perfect wedding venue for us. I love anything vintage so I wanted this to be reflected throughout the day. Our colour scheme was navy with a touch of silver and gold for that extra glitz factor. The time of year was also important, we both love winter and Christmas so we wanted this to play a part too.
The centrepieces were large glass vases with silver stems, each with a tall candle inside. Surrounding the vase I had a Christmas reef which consisted of holly, blue roses, blue thistle, berries and mistletoe – they were stunning!
Any happy tears on the day?
Surprisingly I managed to hold back tears on the day. The same couldn’t be said for Kevin…our daughter was a flower girl and first down the aisle so there were lots of happy tears at that point.
How did the two of you meet?
We have known each other since we were teenagers and finally got together in our earlier twenties!
How long did you spend planning your wedding?
We have been together for 11 years and had always planned to get married. It wasn’t until my sister tied the knot that we finally decided it was our turn. We booked the wedding in January 2013 which gave us approximately 11 months to plan! Obviously I had dreamt of my wedding day since I was a little girl so I had some ideas already…
Best bit of budget advice?
I’m perhaps not the best person to advise on budgets… haha! I did keep adding extras to the list, but it was all worth it in the end. Kevin however was very strict with what he was willing to spend and managed to keep us on track with our spending! It really is about allowing yourself some moving space within your budget but not too much.
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
Absolutely! I had a clear idea in mind of how I wanted my dress to look and thought it would be impossible to find it…..but I did.

General wedding styling
The Alma Inn itself has so much character and was already decorated for Christmas! This just added to the magic and atmosphere of the day. There was lots of sparkle from the twinkling fairy lights and candles. I just added our colours into the scheme which worked really well. The Alma Inn also provided the vintage style chairs in gold.
The wedding cake:
We had a three tier vintage inspired cake with a mix of flavours.
We also had a candy cart with lots of retro goodies!
We hired Wayne Farrow for our entertainment during the day, he provided the music for the ceremony and sang to our guests throughout the drinks reception. The wedding breakfast was amazing! Wayne had us all up and out of our seats singing and dancing throughout the meal – a real party atmosphere.
In the evening we had a live band called Manhattan. They were brilliant and also provided the DJ for the evening too.
We also had a magician to entertain our guests Andrew Dean, he was also amazing.
A party wouldn’t be the same without The Mighty Boof which we hired from ZT Photography.
On the day tips and advice:
Try to keep calm and enjoy every moment!! I certainly did!
