I love this place; Broadoaks is one of my favourite local wedding venues (how lucky am I to live so close to the Lakes?!) and the couple featured today are fabulous and gorgeous and romantic. This is one of those wedding films which captures the atmosphere of the day and will have you smiling along – with me – possibly with a little tear in your eye. LOVE this!

Love is a temporary madness….

Bridal inspiration shoot with mirrors and metallics images by Vickerstaff Photography (4)

Are you superstitious? You might want to look away now.  Today’s styled shoot is a crazy cacophony of metallics and mirrors, paper, calligraphy, design and destruction. It’s all about breaking the rules, breaking free and challenging expectations.

Weddings are full of rules and etiquette. From formal invitations to receiving lines, the legal limitations and family expectations, it can all get a bit much. Silver sixpence in your shoe? Why… in case you need to catch a bus?! Break a few rules, I dare you.

“Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being “in love” which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.”

Hello lovely wedding blog readers, I hope you’re not working too hard today! I have the perfect feature to share with you this morning – something I was involved with a few weeks ago, where I had the pleasure of spending a day with wonderful people to create a really inspiring shoot. We created different bridal looks with our beautiful model Kelsey, and today I’m sharing the prettiest of them all, centred on a gorgeous pink peony bouquet by Kevin at Brackens of Bowness.

pink peonies bridal ideas (1) Kelsey shows just how easy it is to combine beautiful key pieces for a timeless and glamorous wedding style. She wears a dress by Sassi Holford, which came from the fabulous Julia Tasker Bridal Couture. The embroidered detail is so pretty, and goes beautifully with her elegant, smooth updo and natural make up. (Hair: Aqua Salon | Make up: Definitions)

Jamie is based in Cheshire and travels across the UK to photograph weddings… I hear he’s especially fond of the Lake District so if you’re getting married here do check him out!

Ahh… happy Friday everyone! With the weekend beginning in – ooh about 8 hours shall we say? 😉 I thought I’d share something really special with you this morning. I had the absolute honour of styling a creative shoot at Broadoaks Country House a little while ago, and we really made the most of the amazing William Morris Music Room for a truly timeless setting which brought our shoot to life. You can almost taste the romance in the air – it’s such a beautiful setting.

Our beautiful model Kelsey wears a Sassi Holford wedding gown with exquisite embroidery detailing around the neckline. My heartfelt thanks to Julia Tasker Bridal Couture. Kelsey’s graceful and elegant hair was styled by lovely Gareth from Aqua The Salon, and make up is by Helen at Definitions Mobile Beauty.

Hello everyone! I’m still feeling full of beans and totally inspired by the creative day I had at my favourite Lake District wedding venue on Monday – and I thought you’d like to see what it was all about! I’ll warn you my iPhone camera skills are as wobbly as can be, but I do love to tease and this is a very rough kind of ‘sneak peek’ at what me and my new friends got up to earlier this week!

This wedding cake with rice paper flowers was so beautifully made and delicate – if you’ve fallen in love with stationery and are developing a paper fetish, it’s time to think about paper on your wedding cake… isn’t it lovely?

Hello everyone! What do you have planned for this weekend? I’ll be doing a bit of a road trip as I catch up with some lovely wedding people at two gorgeous locations: firstly Storrs Hall is holding an interactive wedding styling event:

Broadoaks Country House’s Country Chic Wedding Fayre

I wish I could have taken you with me on Tuesday when I went to visit Broadoaks Country House in the Lake District. Since I came to live on the edge of the Lakes in 2012 I’ve visited a few venues but nothing comes close to the charm of this little gem. Broadoaks Country House is described as “one of the most romantic hotels in the UK” by the AA. The website promises “secluded gardens, a magical beck that runs through our grounds and the Lake District scenery… the perfect backdrop for romantic photographs”. And oh my goodness do they deliver on those promises, with bells on!

A Lake District wedding venue with real charm and unique style

The drive up to Broadoaks Country House is fun (especially in my Mini!) – winding country roads lead from the touristy madness of Bowness on Windermere away from the crowds and into rolling countryside. Broadoaks appears on the horizon and with its green lawn and traditional fountain looks ever so lovely from the very first moment.
