Let’s never forget weddings are for everyone: while the wedding media’s demographic tends one way, here at English Wedding we’re looking to celebrate a rainbow of couples and today’s UK beach elopement is absolutely one of my favourites! Our couple Wendy and Nigel shine through their day: their happiness is infectious and the images by Devon wedding photographer Thomas Frost are simply out of this world. I’m so lucky to have found this gorgeous pair through the website of talented wedding dressmaker Felicity Westmacott – and oh my, what an incredible DRESS!

Wendy’s dress was made in pale peachy pink silk satin with incredible beaded and applique tulle overlay. Silk chiffon flowers with bold colour print, pearls and glass beads fade from neckline to hem.? The shape was simple and flattering, a column dress with round neckline, cap sleeves and puddle train. Felicity hinted at Wendy’s waistline with a line of tiny beads and included a dipped back neckline to show off her beautiful skin.?

I love this elopement because of Wendy and Nigel’s determination to get wed despite Covid and some major hurdles in 2020. I love it because it’s a fantastic opportunity to say you don’t have to be in your twenties to have an incredible, beautiful wedding or elopement, or to be cover stars on a major wedding blog. In fact, this is our happy couple’s second wedding blog feature! We hope you’ll agree, their elopement is out-of-this-world stunning – as are the happy newlyweds!

How did you choose your photographer?

We looked at all the photographers’ sites which had been recommended by our venue and just loved Tom’s images, totally fitted with our hopes for the day.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

We absolutely loved our photography, Tom captured the whole day to perfection. We eloped!, so it was literally our perfect day and Tom knew all the fabulous places to take us for some incredible photography and video, his local knowledge meant that we had moody fog and then stunning sunny beach memories …. just incredible, whilst being super relaxed and really special.

Videographer details if applicable – and any thoughts for other couples about having a wedding video?

Tom also shot our video, we only wanted a little film and what we have is just great … even past the credits!!

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?

We both felt incredible in our outfits. Originally I thought I might go tea length, but I am so thrilled that I went long, Felicity my dressmaker was just brilliant and we created a dress that I love and loved looking at in the photos afterwards. Nigel felt wonderful in his new suit and we had a lot of fun picking our his tie and pocket square. As it was lockdown the shopping experience was pretty much on line, I sourced my fabric and Felicity found the most beautiful embroidered tulle, Nigel managed to get his suit, once lockdown lifted and we both felt so special on the day.

How did the pandemic affect your wedding plans? Do you have any advice to share with couples planning their weddings right now?

Our wedding plans honestly did not have to change, we wanted to elope and then share with our friends and families on our return from Cornwall, this is the only time we were affected, our venue as the rule of six came in, so our plan of an outside marquee for 12 ended up being divided by 2! We still hope to have a big family and close friends celebration when we can.

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

We were married at Boho Cornwall, in the small village of St Just, Maya and Tom were wonderful and were able to help us create our perfect day without any stress. We even had a wonderful vintage car to take us around Cornwall and then out to dinner in the evening we honestly could not have asked for more, plus they were our witnesses and kindly agreed to reading during the ceremony.

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness

I had a bouquet made by Jenny of wild and chic, who is local to the venue, she couldn’t have been better, I had stunning Cornish lilies and have since bought a whole lot of bulbs so that I can enjoy them every September in the garden. Nigel had a button hole which matched my flowers.

Did you hire a wedding planner?

We didn’t need a planner as it was so teeny tiny and Maya and Tom (Boho Cornwall) were able to help with any details.

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

We didn’t have a cake, just a massive hamper from Rebecca at Indulgence Catering.

Did you personalise your vows or have any wedding readings? What were they?

We wrote our very special own readings and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?

We had all our favourite tunes played whilst we enjoyed champagne and just indulged in our gorgeous intimate wedding, it was beyond special.
