Danielle & Lewis’s beautiful 2020 wedding story, with Grace Elizabeth
After the year we’ve all had, it makes me so, so happy to be able to share real weddings. 2020 weddings were few and far between, but oh, the days which were able to go ahead as micro weddings have been SO special! Today we’re celebrating with beautiful Danielle and handsome husband Lewis, who were married in 2020. Their story is told in the loveliest photographs by English Wedding member Grace Elizabeth, a Devon wedding photographer. My heart goes out to Danielle and Lewis – having to postpone their wedding because of covid, and then changing dates so their micro wedding could go ahead, must have been so hard. It’s really heartwarming to hear how their suppliers pulled out all the stops to make this day happen. Please do scroll all the way through for Grace Elizabeth’s fabulous golden hour portraits which capture the love of these two so perfectly!

How did you choose your photographer?
We’d been looking for a while and I thought I’d ask in a popular Facebook group and we had loads of recommendations then Grace popped up, we absolutely loved her style and she just clicked so well with us, we ended up chatting on the phone for ages when we booked!
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!
Grace was amazing! She honestly was everything we needed and so much more! With COVID she kept in close contact with us and was so accommodating, we moved our wedding 3 times (and still have our party planned for July 2021) the last and final move was with 24 hours notice and Grace did everything she could to help me to organise the wedding in such short time whilst I was being busy working for the NHS! She was more than just a photographer, she became a wedding planner and even a friend throughout the whole process! And the photos speak for themselves, we have such special memories of our small intimate day thanks to her, we cannot wait to see her in July 2021 for our (hopefully) big day.
Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?
Our venue were amazing! We live in Suffolk but I’m originally from Maldon, my Nan had seen posts on their social media and asked us to look and we fell in love on the first viewing. They like Grace were so accommodating with all our last minute changes, and they helped me so much to organise our wedding with 24hours notice, Georgia and Anneka were replying to my messages at silly o’clock when I was struggling with plans. They went above and beyond to ensure we had our special day.
Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?
My dress experience was different to what I expected, I actually brought the dress 2 years in advance. Me and my MOH went on a shopping trip for Christmas presents and saw that WED2B was empty so thought we would have a look, the girls in there were brilliant and had me try on dresses out of my comfort zone, in the end the dress I chose isn’t what I expected, but was so perfect! They also let me and my bridal party have a ‘reveal’ type day where I tried the dress on for everyone- this was amazing because I felt I’d missed out on this before- they were brilliant.
My Husband’s suits and accessories were from River Island, like me he found this a long time ago and when it came to buying the instore team were brilliant with finding all the sizes and ordering them into store if necessary!
Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness
We didn’t! My creative Father-in-law did all the flowers!
As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?
My cake was from the lovely @jemimas_cakes on instagram! We found her online and with short notice she made us the most beautiful and yummy cake for your intimate day.
Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves
We made our theme gin bottles, we plan for our big day in July 2021 to have table names and place cards associated with bottles of gin. For our small day in November we had gin bottles and fairy lights, which I absolutely loved (and had to drink in the build up to the wedding!)
Did you personalise your vows or have any wedding readings? What were they?
For our wedding day we had one reading, we chose ‘Winnie the Pooh’ by A.A Milne. We chose this because we both love how simple it is and how it reflects on our friendship and how even through hard time’s we’ve always had and will continue to have each other.
What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?
‘You and I’ Acoustic version by Tom Walker. This wasn’t our original choice of song, but when listening to it we realised how much it reflects on the journey it’s taken to us getting to our wedding day. With COVID and family illness we have had the past 12 months we’d never prepared for . We felt the lyrics ‘This years been hard for us no doubt let’s raise a glass to a better one, and all of the things that we’ve overcome’ went perfectly with everything we’ve been through as a couple and are currently trying to overcome as a couple but also with our friends and family who attended.
