The Wedding Industry In Lockdown By The Jam Hot Wedding Show Band

We are Jam Hot Wedding Band, and are here on English Wedding to answer a few questions regarding the wedding industry throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, based on our experiences and those of the many amazing venues and suppliers that we work with – well, usually work with!

How has COVID-19 affected Jam Hot and the Wedding Industry?

We are all about helping to create the best day of a couple’s life to date. Following months of high-intensity wedmin, planning and researching – a couple finally reach the day they have been dreaming about. Arriving at their stunning wedding venue, they take their vows surrounded by all of their nearest and dearest; followed by an elegant drinks reception, scintillating meal and heartfelt speeches. This wonderful day is topped off by the element that Jam Hot Show Band specialises in – a raucous, energetic party that sees everyone packed onto the dance floor, singing at the top of their lungs and generally having the time of their lives.

This is all of a sudden a very real health hazard. Everyone has been affected at least in part by COVID-19 – but the wedding industry (alongside many others of course!) ground to a complete halt overnight. The impact has of course been catastrophic for venues and suppliers alike, with all weddings being called off for the foreseeable future. Our diary is always extremely busy, with events booked in up to 2 years in advance, so seeing our world disappear overnight was more than a little scary!

What has Jam Hot been up to during this time?

Making music is what we do, and we live and breathe our Jam Hot family. After the initial shock and flurry of liaising with understandably distraught clients, we thought about what we could do to keep spirits up and to continue making music. So we decided get cracking with our ‘Lockdown Series’, a selection of videos featuring our wonderful musicians, all recorded and filmed from the comfort of everyone’s home! It was great to keep playing, albeit in a very contained way!

We have also been catching up with the things that we would usually never find the time for – lots of work behind the scenes that we’ve been putting off, as we’re usually always on the road and flying all over the world to play! So we’ve been staying as positive as we can, and are determined to come out of this situation in an even stronger place than before – we just miss playing our show and seeing each other, we have so much fun on our travels!

How is your recovery looking?

It’s more than devastating to see so many amazing wedding venues under threat, and so many small wedding suppliers going out of business through no fault of their own – in a lot of cases these are high-quality, family run ventures that have been built up over many years. In our case, we are just busying ourselves in readiness for the glorious moment when we’re allowed to resume providing live entertainment – Jam Hot will certainly not fall by the wayside, we are far too excited and have far too much planned! We have also been working closely with our trusted Audio Visual suppliers Artisan Productions on some exciting socially distanced projects that will be released soon!

Our clients are always at the forefront of our minds, and we realise the heartbreak involved with having your wedding cancelled – so we strive to be as flexible as we can for all of our lovely couples. As long as the wedding is moved to a date when we’re available, we are simply transferring the contract across to the new date, with no penalties; the last thing we want to do is to add more stress to the situation!

Are couples booking ahead at the moment?

They are indeed, it may seem like a bit of a gamble right now, with things still being far from normal – but rest assured that if the government insists that your wedding needs to be amended due to COVID-19, we will apply the same flexibility that we currently are with our clients, and your date can be switched.

I think everyone’s at the point where they need something exciting to look forward to, so pinning down your wedding date for 2021/22 and securing Jam Hot is a really great way of having something positive to focus on – just don’t leave it too long, we hate to have to say that we’re unavailable when a couple wants to hire us!

So in essence, although our world has been turned upside down and the curtain is temporarily down for us – we cannot wait to be back on stage and performing for all of our wonderful couples all over the world… after all, I think everyone is more than ready for a good old knees up, and Jam Hot will be right there to oblige!
