Puppy love! Will your pooch be a major part of your big day? With Oobaloos Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

So you’re marrying your best human friend, but you really don’t want to leave your other best friend out of the celebrations. As an animal lover, I totally get it: dogs are a huge part of our lives and if they’ll enjoy the attention I think they’re the sweetest addition to a wedding day! Your photos will be adorable, you can dress them up a little… and I couldn’t resist these super cute pics from Oobaloos Photography at The Barn At Upcote for the blog today!

“Celebrating with closest friends and family is one of the most important aspects for most at their wedding, however one of your closest family members can be left behind.

“There are now many dog walkers and dog sitters that will bring our furry friends to join the celebrations for a short while.

With a little (or a lot of) training they could be the ring bearer and escort your bridesmaids down the aisle or if their temperament isn’t suitable just come to share a few minutes of your special day.

There is always a risk that they become the star attraction but if there was ever a way to help you create relaxed informal photos, the interaction with our pets is a way to do it, plus they are just so cute.” ~ Hollie, Daisy Says I Do

Safe & happy – 6 tips for including your pooch in your big day

  1. The ceremony
Any dog can be overwhelmed by a crowd of people, so if in doubt have someone you trust look after him during the ceremony and celebrations.
  2. The location
An outdoor ceremony could be perfect for involving your furry friend. They’ll be more relaxed in the open air than walking down the aisle in a stately home or church – although they may decide to mark their new territory!
  3. The vicar!
Make sure everyone is happy with your dog’s part in the day – vicars, registrars and venues especially! Check whether your dog can be there for the wedding breakfast – some venues may have rules about animals in their restaurants for example
  4. A little companionship
During your ceremony and while you’re mingling, you won’t have much time to hang out with your dog and give him the attention he needs. Choose a trusted bridesmaid, usher or family member who your dog knows really well to take care of him during the day. It should be their only role – keeping your dog comfortable and happy is so important.
  5. Safety
Beware of toxins in your bouquet – hydrangeas and delphiniums are popular wedding flowers but they can be poisonous to dogs. And watch out for good quality, safe puppy bowties and accessories – anything that could present a choking hazard should be avoided!
  6. Treats!
Remember to plan for your dog’s feeding times during the day – bring bowls, biscuits, a tin opener, and provide fresh water wherever you can. Also make sure he has time for a nice long walk with someone he loves before bedtime!
