Chloe & Michael’s beautiful Maison Talbooth wedding, with Grace Elizabeth

Published by Claire Gould on

Good morning lovelies! Have you had thunderstorms? We’re still waiting up here on the coast but I hear it’s been quite exciting in some parts of the country overnight… do send it my way, won’t you? I love lightning!

Today’s wedding is beautiful, and intimate – with only closest friends and family attending, and a wonderfully relaxed vibe. Guests were seated on armchairs for the ceremony, and the vibe was beautifully boho with a flavour of spring. I’ve been wondering if smaller weddings are set to become more popular in years to come… and Chloe and Michael’s day couldn’t be a more perfect example of an intimate wedding.

The bride is absolutely stunning in a San Patrick gown, with a full lace back. I adore her boho look and the flowers in her hair… isn’t she beautiful?

With love,

How did you choose your photographer?

I found Grace through recommendation, of both another photographer and one of Michael’s work colleagues who had their wedding photographed by her.
Once we’d had a browse through her website and spoken to her we knew she was the right photographer for us!

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

We can’t recommend Grace highly enough. From our first chat, to our wedding day, and then to her hand delivering our photos in a beautifully presented box, Grace was professional throughout, but also wonderfully personable and a genuine, caring person. Our wedding day was intimate and simple, yet Grace managed to brilliantly capture and showcase all the small details and those special moments with our family and friends that we will treasure forever, including the more candid shots that we were after. We are so very happy with the photographs that Grace has produced, and we couldn’t recommend her more to those looking for a photographer. It’s strange to think – we hired Grace to be our photographer, but by the end, she felt like a friend.

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

Maison Talbooth – We visited quite a few venues before Maison that were just too large for the size of wedding we wanted. We always wanted it to be small and intimate.

By chance, Michael booked for us to have a massage in their spa over Christmas 2018 and when we arrived soon realised they were setting up for a wedding. We suddenly had a light bulb moment of ‘oh they do weddings here!’.

Within the next couple of weeks we had returned and fallen in love with the Dedham Vale and the house itself. We loved the idea of having complete exclusivity of the house for the entire day. We were both in agreement that the house and grounds look beautiful even during the winter months.

We got married in the relaxed setting of lounge space which included a grand piano perfect for my brother George to play as I walked down the aisle! All of our guests sat on the sofas and armchairs that had been pulled into an aisle formation.

We then had post ceremony drinks and canapes in the pool house located just a short stroll away from the main house. In this area they have a cosy outdoor fire with chairs and blankets for anyone that fancied braving the cool spring air!

Our wedding breakfast was in the light and bright dining room which was then later cleared for our evening reception, band and all important dance floor!

Everything about the venue was perfect and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more accommodating in both the lead up and on the actual day itself.

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?

I bought my dress from a beautiful little shop in Hadleigh, called The Bridal Lounge. Charlotte (the owner) has created a wonderfully relaxed environment which completely put me at ease considering I had no idea what sort of style I wanted!
The day I ‘Said Yes to the Dress’ my Mum (Alexandra), and Maid of Honour (Alice) were with me for moral support!
My dress is called ‘Abaco’ by San Patrick. Long sleeves, elegant front and dramatic lace back – from the moment I tried it on I was in love and still am!
I am looking for another excuse to wear it other than around the house!

After visiting many other shops beforehand, Michael bought his, Father of the Bride and Best Man suits from Coes in Maldon. The same place he had hired his 6th form prom tux almost 12 years prior! From the moment he spotted the suit in the shop window, he knew he wanted to try it on!
The shopping experience here was again truly relaxed with super helpful staff.

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness 🙂

Our florist was the lovely Caroline from Orchid Room Flowers. I came to her with an idea of colour (jewel, warm, bright colours) and style (spring, boho) and she and her team handled it from there!

I had asked for boho style bouquets, table pieces and mantelpiece decoration adorned with beautiful jewel coloured flowers, from David Austin Roses, Helleborus and tulips. Contrasted by the green foliage of Eucalyptus and Ruscus.

She even created the two beautiful flower collars for our family dogs Bluebell and Daisy. Who were our extra two bridesmaids 🙂

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

My wonderful Mum, Alexandra Green created our wedding cake. She is a talented baker who has extensive experience. She endeavors to use local produce and eggs from her and my Dad’s chickens!
We gave her creative license and what she produced was simply gorgeous and tasted sublime! The flavours and tiers were as follows –

Top Tier –
Lemon & Elderflower
(Lemon sponge, Tiptree Lemon Curd, Elderflower Buttercream)

Mid Tier –
Victoria Sponge
(With her homemade raspberry jam, made with Sible Hedingham Raspberries, White chocolate Buttercream)

Bottom Tier –
Rich Chocolate Brownie Cake
(With her homemade salted Caramel, Salted Caramel Buttercream)

Note – All eggs lovingly provided by ‘The Whitecroft Girls’ Hattie, Florence, Olive & Belle.

Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves (we love that stuff!)

We both have wonderful memories of the beach and have a shared love for nature. In the interests of keeping our wedding as eco-friendly as possible, with minimal waste, we decided against favours and for name places used pebbles from our garden, with each guests name written on by myself in gold pen.

My Brother George, kindly played the piano as I walked down the aisle. He played ‘Love of my Life’ by Queen.

We had flower collars and matching green harnesses (to match maid of honour dress) for our family dogs, Bluebell and Daisy.

Did you personalise your vows or have any wedding readings? What were they?

We didn’t personalise our vows but we did have two wedding readings.
One of which was read by my brother George Green and the other read by Michael’s sister Jennifer Ward.

1. The Notebook – Nicholas Sparks (read by Michael’s sister, Jennifer)

I am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who’s ever lived: I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this has always been enough.

2. Two Trees by Daniel Woodrow (read by my brother, George)

Falling in love is a nuisance; a temporary madness defying sense and logic and reason. You cannot simply write a list of the features of the person you wish to fall in love with, neither can you choose where or when it happens. It just does.

We are here to celebrate love itself, which is what is left long after being in love has faded away. The love we honour is a more mature, thoughtful and complete creature; it has known highs and lows, it has sacrificed and compromised, but through it all it has endured and grown and strengthened.
It is like two trees growing side by side, both so firmly rooted in their love that when the blossom of their passion finally surrenders itself to the ground, they find that their boughs, their roots, their very souls are as one tree, together stronger and more perfect than either ever thought possible.

What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?

Our first dance song was ‘You and Me’ by Lifehouse.

Michael and I have been together for 12 years and its a song we both love and can remember listening too in the early days of getting together.
It’s just always been him and me. 🙂
