Hen weekends have become synonymous with tacky clubs, L-plates and big, boozy nights out abroad. If that makes your skin crawl then fret not! We have a list of ideas that you can use for a fabulous, sophisticated 2021 hen weekend here in the UK. Not only will you save money on flights but you will also cut travel-time, making it a lot easier for everyone involved!

1) Head to Bournemouth for a beach break

First up on our list is the brilliant seaside city of Bournemouth, located just 2 hours from London and with 7 miles of gorgeous sandy beaches it’s one of the UK’s most popular hen destinations. You can opt to stay in one of the luxurious hotels which are scattered along the coast road or hire a self-catering house and have all of the ladies under one roof.

When you are out of the accommodation you can bathe on the beach or explore the city’s shops and bars. Alternatively, Bournemouth is home to a number of quirky activities like flower crown making, where you will be supplied with beautiful local flowers and will be taught how to make stunning wreaths.

2) Have a spa break in Bath

Next up is the West-Country city of Bath. Renowned for its stunning architecture and thermae Roman spas, it’s the ideal destination for a relaxing hen weekend. Although you can’t actually swim in the Roman Baths you can book a trip to the modern Thermae Spa, day or night. The Minerva Bath is an outside, rooftop pool which boasts views across the city and is naturally heated. You can also book a number of treatments here or alternatively, arrange for a mobile beautician to come to your accommodation and treat the hens to a treatment in the comfort of your house.

3) Go cruising in Oxford

Oxford, the city of dreaming spires, has been home for over 800 years to royalty and scholars. The city is bursting with cosy cottages and renovated barns that make for a picturesque holiday home all year round. You can head into the city for a quaint afternoon tea or if you want to take it a step further you can hop aboard a cruiser and enjoy tea on board the Mad Hatter’s Tea Boat. If you don’t fancy Wonderland, you can always enjoy an afternoon punting along the river.

4) Hit the water in Brighton

If you are looking for a sophisticated hen weekend that has a bit of everything then Brighton is your go-to destination. With hundreds of quirky bars, restaurants, tea rooms and local shops you can spend the whole day venturing through the Laines. If you are lucky enough to visit in summer you can always hire a deck chair and bask in the British sunshine along the pebbled beaches or hire a court and get your adrenaline flowing with a game of beach volleyball or hit the water on a paddleboard.

5) Take a city break in Edinburgh

Whether you are based in Scotland or just fancy a change in scenery, Edinburgh is the perfect place for a hen weekend. Take a trip into the past and visit Edinburgh’s Castle or if you are visiting in summer you can try and base your trip around the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Famous for its platform for new talented artists and comedians, there are plenty of shows that you and the hens can book in to. If you aren’t in town for the festival and want to see all the city has to offer you can also arrange a GPS treasure hunt which will take you all over the city whilst you hunt for clues.

If you are on a hen night in Bath, then a visit to the Opium bar is a must. Its like something Oscar Wilde would have dreamed up in a drug fueled haze. The decor and atmosphere has to be seen to be believed.
