Hey lovelies! I hope you’re having a fabulous week. Is it summer anywhere in the UK right now? We drove from Somerset up to Cumbria yesterday with the car heater on all the way – where’s our sunshine?!! Today though, I have a lovely spring wedding to brighten your screens and lift all of our hearts. Gorgeous couple Chloe & Dan tied the knot in Cornwall, with their two adorable pooches as ring bearers on the day. Their wedding is a DIY affair with 400 (I know, right!!) handmade pom poms (by the bride) instead of confetti, a sparkly fairy light table plan and plenty of rustic touches to really make this a special and personal wedding.

The venue is The Green in Liskeard, Cornwall, where Mark from Evolve Photography is a recommended wedding photographer. Chloe and Dan very kindly told us a little about their day:

“Our venue package was fantastic value! It included accommodation for 32 guests for two nights, our DJ, and supplied us with a fantastic fish and chip van for our dinner option. The Green is perfect, but there is option to decorate and personalise it. We added lanterns and garlands and a fair few fairy lights. Being March it was very cosy as the night drew in and the fairy lights / candles sparkled. Virtually everything was home made… even our cake! My mum is very creative and not only arranged all our flowers she also made our three tier cake. I made my own activity packs and goody bags for the children to keep them entertained through the meal, which was very successful!

We live in Hertfordshire and absolutely fell in love with ‘The Green’ in Liskeard, Cornwall. Mark was recommended to us by our venue, but we still did our research of local photographers to check that Mark’s style of photography was the one for us!

We love all 910!! photographs taken by Mark. He was amazing! He captured our day perfectly. He wasn’t intrusive but always present, absolutely brilliant!

Seeing our photos for the first time, we were taken right back to our special day, re-living all those cherished moments with loved ones. They are creative and artistic, including sparkler long exposures and photographs in the rain under a lit up umbrella, stunning. We love our portraits of just the two of us!

 

Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?

Intimate, cosy, emotional, traditional, DIY, and very very special!

Your wedding style or theme:

Rustic, featuring Pastel Pink and Mint colours. Roses with peonies, gypsophila and pheasant feathers.

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

Recommendations and select family/friends were also suppliers.

What’s your top tip for saving money?

D I Y…
I made all our own favours… Cornish fudge hearts, handmade wish bracelets and handmade wine charms.
I also discovered a new talent of mine, which was to make pompoms… 440 of them as an alternative to confetti!
We made our own sweet table! Saving us so much money.
If you want to do a first dance routine…. YOUTUBE! Ours was self taught and saved us over £400!

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

Caricaturist! Fantastic entertainment, especially for the inbetween parts of the day.
The photobooth was brilliant, and our wooden Mr and Mrs light up letters were stunning!
And it is definitely worth investing in a very good photographer, I wouldn’t make cuts in that department.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

My best friend and I spent several Mondays and Fridays after work creating all of our stationery…. from table numbers, to light up glass bottles (our Table plan) to personalised gifts, favours and robes!
Handmade by Lucy, is so talented and well worth a google 🙂

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Yes! It is stunning… and Champagne in colour. The detailing is breathtaking and was extremely good value for money.

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

My shoes were peep toe, pearlescent and had vintage pearls and diamonds on top. (Purchased from Debenhams)
My something new was a pandora charm bracelet with two very special charms from my husband on the morning of the wedding.

And what did the groom wear?

Jennis and warmann, three piece tailormade tweed suit. He looked very dapper!

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

I had two flower girls (my twin nieces, who are 3years old) they wore monsoon dusky pink dresses, with monsoon matching shoes and bag. As it was a winter wedding we purchased warm bolero’s from H & M.
We also had our two dogs as ring bearers. They both wore homemade floral collars.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

My husbands cousin is a professional hair and make up artist.
Laura Haleigh hair and makeup.
Haleigh is fantastic, she made me look stunning and feel amazing, I highly recommend!

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)

So DIY again, my mum and I spent one weekend arranging all of our flowers, whilst hubby was on his stag weekend. We purchased from several places, including Springtime Garden centre, Dunelm and The range. We even customised plain Ivy garlands from Amazon with additional flowers for the top table.
The button holes are one of my favourites….. we took a shotgun cartridge, wrapped it in hessian, with a partly closed white rose and a pheasant feather, amazing!

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

Lemon and Elderflower, as it’s light, refreshing and my favourite!

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

Our day was full of surprises for our guests. We kept most things to ourselves, including the caricaturist, (parody portraits) photo booth (big cheese photo booths) and our first dance routine. I highly recommend both suppliers! They were both fantastic.

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Enjoy the day, you have worked so hard, so make the most of it! It is definitely the best day of my life so far. It’s worth putting the time in as it doesn’t go unnoticed.

What’s the best thing about being married?

To be able to call my best friend my Husband, and to start our new chapter.
