So this GORGEOUS pair have all the summer feels! I adore the vibrant ribbons and fun, relaxed and beautiful styling of their Old Oak Farm wedding day. Sophie’s Watters gown and Loz’s TM Lewin suit are perfect for the occasion: their British grown, seasonal flowers are just divine for such a colourful, festival-style September wedding!

Images are by Simon Withyman Photography, who is new to English Wedding but I really hope we’ll see more from in the coming months! You can check out his work at simonwithyman.com

The venue is a completely natural beauty however as we wanted to make it colourful we added colourful ribbons and flowers. Our wedding flowers were created (and grown) by the amazing Kate from Windmill Farm Flowers. Kate works with the venue regularly and so was recommended to us and I honestly couldn’t fault her. We went for colourful and bright seasonal flowers, the flowers looked so amazingly beautiful and really made the venue come to life, they were also really reasonably priced for what we got. When our bouquets and buttonholes arrived I was blown away: they were everything I had dreamed of and more.

We met Simon at a few different wedding fairs and loved the style of his photos and he was very friendly and personable.

Everything was so easy and relaxed right from the booking. On the day Simon was amazing and mostly blended into the wedding party whilst capturing the most amazing pictures. We were also quite adamant that we knew we wanted the usual couple pictures from the day but we really didn’t want it to be a long drawn out process or a focus of the day, Simon made it lots of fun and it was very quick and painless.

When we saw our photos for the first time we were blown away, they are absolutely beautiful. The day was such a blur that it was so nice to see it all played out again through the photos. Simon managed to capture the most amazing moments and we will treasure them forever.

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

Most things we did ourselves or were organised by the venue.

What’s your top tip for saving money?

PINTEREST

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

Venue, food, flowers, and photographer were the most important parts for us.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

We created and printed both our save the dates and our wedding invites.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Yes I absolutely loved it.

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

Watters Wtoo – Lace and Grace Bridal Boutique, Bristol.

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

They weren’t particularly exciting really and were more of an afterthought. I wanted some cool blue shoes for under my dress as my something blue which I actually managed to find in Marks and Spencer’s, although they were quite uncomfortable so didn’t last very long. My mum and dad bought me a gorgeous pearl necklace that I wore with my dress, I also bought earrings and a bracelet but I forgot to put them on when getting ready.

And what did the groom wear?

Groom wore a navy suit from TM Lewin with a white shirt and floral tie which had tiny flowers in pinks and oranges.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

Bridesmaids wore long nude coloured tulle skirts with a nice cream/white top, they all chose their own tops and looked beautiful.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

My hair and make up was done by Lauren and Paige from Salon Sabina, they were fab and I was so happy.

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

Kids packs – We designed and created an activity pack booklet which had different wedding themed activities for them to do whilst the food and speeches was going on, I also put together some good bags for them.
Hangover Kits – we put together some hangover kits (Pinterest find) with a small bottle of water, paracetamol, mint, berroca etc and then made stickers for them.
Tissue Packs – we put together our own tissue packs in coloured organza bags with stickers on saying ‘for your happy tears’.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

We went for a three tiered semi naked cake with a selection of our flowers on it. We wanted a gorgeous cake but aren’t a fan of traditional iced cakes. We have been told it was really tasty although we didn’t actually get any as it was so popular with our guests.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

During the day one of my amazing friends sang us down the aisle and then her and her boyfriend did an acoustic set whilst our welcome drinks were going on.
For our evening entertainment we were hoping to fill it with a short performance from my Mum and Dad with my Dad singing our first dance, another family band who are great at getting the party started and then the DJ playing our favourite songs later in the evening. Unfortunately the family band weren’t able to come to the wedding so we were a bit worried that the short set from my parents wouldn’t be enough, however one of our friends who is in a band ended up doing a short set with his guitarist who had supported my mum and dads set, after my mum and dad which was amazing. We then just had a local DJ who was great at accepting the millions of song requests from our guests.

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Don’t worry about it so much, if you are having a good time your guests will have a good time.
Trust the venue, (as long as they are as fab as the team at Old Oak farm), they have seen so many weddings and will be able to point you in the right direction for most things – definitely tried and tested.
Enjoy it – From the moment I woke up on the day of my wedding I had the best day ever, I felt so relaxed and everything worked perfectly.

What’s the best thing about being married?

We have been together for 10 years so being married isn’t actually that different from our lives before this. I’d say the best thing is probably being able to call each other ‘Husband and Wife’, we enjoy that.
