A sweet little freebie for all DIY brides and grooms!

Published by Claire Gould on

How many of you lovely lot are planning to make your own wedding stationery? Quite a few, I guess – but knowing where to start can be pretty overwhelming!

The secret to stunning, modern wedding stationery that doesn’t look dated and – well, a bit ‘meh’ – is to keep the details super personal, unfussy and uncluttered. Wedding invites in 2019 will be minimal, beautiful and with a real personal touch… and learning just a little modern calligraphy can set you right on the path to creating fabulous stationery your guests will LOVE!

Here’s the thing. As well as wedding blogging I do a little calligraphy. I teach classes around the north west (and I’m planning a bit of a jaunt around the UK next summer so holler if you know a venue and would like me to come and teach near you!) – and I design wedding stationery. This year I’ve even launched my very first Wedding Calligraphy Workshop (places available here – it’s in Manchester in April)!

If you’d like to try your hand at modern calligraphy to learn how to write your very own wedding motif or monogram, or place names, or gorgeous signage for your big day, I have a freebie I think you’ll enjoy!  I’m sharing my introduction to modern calligraphy ON FILM! This is the first time I’ve ever shared this calligraphy tutorial for free. It’s usually included in my online calligraphy course where you buy all 6 tutorials for a set price. But for one month only, I’m sharing this first video and worksheets with you FREE!

FREE online introduction to modern calligraphy – Tutorial 1 of 6

I filmed a series of 6 modern calligraphy workshops a couple of years ago. This is the first tutorial in the series, and introduces my modern calligraphy set – which now looks SO different to the original (Watch my little ‘unbox’ clip on Instagram to see what’s inside).

If you’ve been to a calligraphy class with me in person, you’ll recognise the exercises and the advice I give about super thin, hairline strokes… and about not being too gentle with your nib on the downwards strokes.

The worksheets you’ll need to complete this workshop are here –

1. lines & pen pressure
2. loops and smooth pressure strokes

If you’d like to buy my calligraphy starter set you can – and do use the discount code in the video!

If you’d like to learn more, the full course is only £50!

Here’s my brief introduction to the full course… oh, and my cat Bertie!
