About Pearce Wedding Photography

I’m James Pearce, a wedding photographer based in Ramsgate, Kent and I’m probably not what you’d expect.

Most couples come to me having looked at a hundred photographers who all say the same things. Natural. Relaxed. Candid. It starts to blur. So let me tell you something more specific.

I don’t bark instructions or manufacture moments. But I’m not a fly-on-the-wall either. I’ll give you a gentle nudge — stand here, look out at that view, walk towards me, and then I step back and let things breathe. What happens in that space is real. The laugh, the way you lean into each other, the glance you share when you think nobody’s watching. That’s what ends up on your wall.

I people-read exceptionally well. I notice things — the shift in someone’s energy, the moment a couple stops being aware of the camera and just exists together. I know when to move in close and when to disappear. That instinct is what makes the difference between photographs that look nice and photographs that feel like something.

By the time golden hour arrives — that last hour before sunset when the light turns warm and low and extraordinary — I already know exactly where I’m taking you. I’ve scouted the venue. I know where the light falls. I’ll put music on my mini speaker, something from a band you love, and for fifteen minutes it’ll feel less like a photo session and more like an extension of your day.

You’ll also get same-day Instax previews. Physical photographs in your hands before the night is out. Couples frame them. It’s become one of my favourite parts of the job.

I work across Kent — East Quay in Whitstable, Secret Garden Ashford, Hayne House, Old Kent Barn, and plenty more. Every venue is different and I treat it that way.

My couples aren’t looking for a conventional wedding album. They want something that looks and feels like their day actually was — honest, warm, alive. If that’s you, I’d love to hear from you.

Instead of artificially staging moments to capture, James gave us the prompting and space to actually create them. For example, the photos we have with our bridesmaids and groomsmen, I will remember forever. James prompted us to ask if we wanted some time together (which of course we did) so we grabbed some drinks just as the sun was beginning to set and went for a walk down to the gardens. As we did so, James put music from our favourite band on his mini speaker (which he had taken note of from our entrance music) and I just remember having a blast, dancing, and singing with my favourite people while James shot away with his camera. When I look back on those photos, those smiles are 100% real and that means so much to us to have captured that as a memory.

We told James that we were really keen to experiment with some more artistic shots and boy did he deliver. Taking shots in mirror reflections, experimenting with light, taking some incredible Instax shots (which we now have framed in our hallway) – James did it all.
