I met lovely Tracy from The Flower House at a styled editorial shoot last September – and she’s one of the friendliest wedding creatives you could hope to meet. Tracy’s talents with flowers are a joy to witness:  her arrangements are thoughtful and beautifully arranged, with huge character and a fabulous contemporary style. They’re the focal point of today’s inspiration feature, which shows you how to style a bohemian wedding with rich tones for late summer. The images are by my lovely friend Jenny Heyworth Photography for Aspire Photography Training.

Styling has the trademark elegance of Emma from Tebbey & Co, who was assisted on this shoot by Catherine from White Feather & Co. The black candles and graceful brass candlesticks work perfectly with the floral arrangements – and don’t you just love that gorgeous mix of colours and textures? The little pink pointy flowers are Blushing Bride, which is very appropriate…

I still dream of Italian summers, more years than I can count after living there. Such a beautiful country inspires the prettiest of wedding decor, and today’s shoot captures the essence of an intimate Italian destination wedding so beautifully.

So dream yourself away with me to an Italian castle where dreams come true. Picture the scene: a beautiful English bride with her gorgeous groom and their adorable son escape to be married, Italian style.

Bouquets are abundant and glorious in their greenery; dresses are light, floaty and exquisitely detailed. Tablescapes are simply styled with fabric runners and the prettiest summer blooms. Delicate, organic calligraphy sets the scene for a day to remember for eternity.

Do you have a vision for your perfect wedding invitations? Are you collecting images you love on Pinterest, but leaving it until 6 months or so before your wedding to place an order? Or do you think DIY-ing your invites will save you money? (And surely it can’t be that hard, right?)

I’ve been a wedding calligrapher for 12 years. I’ve made bespoke invites, launched my own collections and helped hundreds of brides and grooms find their perfect stationery. I’ve also seen thousands of invitations cross my desk from letterpress companies, high street brands and little independent wedding invitation designers.

But I’m lucky – I get to see (and make!) your stationery: I don’t have to find something for my own wedding. It’s hard – for some of you it will be way more complicated than you think. You’ll need to make compromises, scale back your expectations… or maybe be surprised when you find invitations which are less expensive than you thought they could be!

How was your long weekend? I had plans to have a leisurely working day yesterday which turned out to be more about walking on the beach than blogging! But it’s almost my birthday and I’m of a mind to take things easy this week… especially while the sun is beaming down on the beautiful Lake District where I live. We have blogging plans afoot (check out the new shop and Directory) – and I know my inbox is yelling at me – but I wanted to share a special offer for any of you lovely creative wedding suppliers out there.

Are you fully booked for the summer months? Are you ready to take bookings for the winter, or into 2018? Do you need a little boost with your SEO? Then I can help.

The English Wedding Blog is all about matchmaking amazing suppliers with brides and grooms.

This year has flown by – I’ve been burning the candle both ends and hopping around on a broken foot while I do it (I know – nightmare!). The new Directory and Shop on English Wedding are happily taking over my life and I can’t believe it’s going to be April in just a few weeks’ time! I’ll soon be taking to the road with my calligraphy workshops and I’m thrilled to say we’ve added a new date to our diaries. Would you like to join me on the 19th of May? It would be lovely to meet some of you… and of course there’s a discount for any pro photographers who’d like to join us and take some pics we can use on the blog over the summer. (Message me!)

As we nestle further into our chunkiest knits and wrap our hands around mugs of steaming hot chocolate here at English Wedding Blog HQ I have just a couple of inspirational features to share with you before Christmas. It’s been an amazing year; I’m still full of the joys of the festive season and that’s very much thanks to the guys at Aspire Photography Training. Our last shoot of 2016 was full of winter wonderfulness and I simply had to share some of these ideas with you before we break up!

Catherine (White Feather & Co.) – stylist, business mentor and the most inspirational person I know – chose pine branches and eucalyptus stems alongside brass candlesticks and copper cutlery to create a winter tablescape; warmer tones contrasting with the foliage beautifully. Bouquets were styled by the fabulous Katie at Made in Flowers.

Hello beautiful! I hope you’re having the most wonderful week. I’ve been super busy with my calligraphy pens recently, dreaming up something which many of you have asked me about – and I’m thrilled to say my online calligraphy workshop is finally here!! Wherever you are in the country, you can now learn calligraphy for your wedding from the comfort of your own home 🙂

The workshop is based around 6 video tutorials of calligraphy demonstrations, tips and advice. Each video is around 5-10 minutes long.

Every week you’ll receive a new video, which comes with practice worksheets for you to print. In 3 weeks you’ll learn how to write a pretty modern alphabet – enough to design your own wedding invitations, address envelopes and write place name tags.

By the end of the 6 week workshop you will know how to write a beautiful modern calligraphy script with a traditional dip pen. You’ll be ready to develop your own lettering style, and you’ll be writing and framing your calligraphy quotes to hang on your walls!

One of the things I love about the wedding industry is how quickly things change. Fashions come and go SO fast. As a wedding blogger I love how our industry thrives; how we import new ideas and how new faces appear so often on social media. Every new wedding business is an inspiration to me. And it makes staying in the game hard. It makes winning, and staying at the top of the wedding industry, the most exciting challenge you can imagine.

Weddings is a fast-evolving, fashion-led industry

I have some very good friends who, like me, have been in the wedding industry for more than a decade  – and I’ve seen a complete transformation of wedding styling in that time.

We used to love the funniest things: satin ribbons; themed weddings; tidy bouquets; scroll invitations. It’s ridiculous but true that my calligraphy business started up before vintage was invented. (Or at least, before vintage became a ‘thing’ that had anything to do with weddings.)

Did you know that make-up for a summer or a winter wedding is completely different? Brides are often worried that having professional make-up for their wedding means that they might end up looking orange and over painted, but experienced make-up artists know that different lighting changes make-up dramatically and they can make sure you look amazing whatever the season.

In summer, bright overhead sun throws shadows and bleaches skin tones while in winter the  sun is low but this greyer light can also look cold. In winter warmth and depth needs to be added as flash photography will often be used on cloudy or darker days. Your make-up will need to be adjusted to suit the cooler light.

Your winter wedding foundation will need to give a good coverage but still give a natural finish: a slightly more velvet, matte texture would be more appropriate on all but the very driest of skins. Avoid foundations with lots of light reflecting properties, which can illuminate imperfections if your photographer has to use flash. Today’s excellent foundations are so good they often eliminate the need for using powder, giving a younger look to your makeup.

Autumn is an amazing time to be married – the colours of the season are super inspiring and there are so many incredible ways to style your day. Today I’m thrilled to be featuring some gorgeous autumn wedding inspiration from the lovely team at Aspire Photography Training. Their styled shoots are wonderful; I was lucky enough to be there for this shoot (you’ll spot my calligraphy here and there!) and I LOVE it.

The colours are bold and striking; contrasting soft blue tones with autumn colours works wonderfully. Vibrant orange cocktails and burnt whisky colours look stunning; combining berries with feathers and textured props is a delight!

The calligraphy was written in shades of orange; I used a handmade paper with white lettering for the invitation and place names, while quotes and poems are striking in amber shaded inks.

Today’s wedding inspiration comes from the fabulous team at Aspire Photography Training, with styling by Catherine Connor and photography by Jenny Heyworth. Everything about Venice is romantic. The tiny streets, the crumbling bridges, the lace and glass working… I really do adore it there (when I lived in Trieste I used to hop on a train every weekend just to wander the streets and soak in the atmosphere!) – and Jenny’s images capture the essence of this most romantic of cities.
