Wedding venues have been on my mind rather a lot recently. I see lots of weddings on blogs where the venue takes a bit of a back seat. Maybe it’s the blogs; maybe it’s the magazines too! But there’s a danger that what we see (or don’t see) in the wedding media can mislead us. Don’t let your magnificent, quirky, charming or historic wedding venue fade into the background on your big day!

Bring out the best of your wedding venue with great photography

I had a little chat about venues with my wedding photographer friend Martin Hambleton. He was involved in a photo shoot at gorgeous Arley Hall in Cheshire with three other fabulous wedding photographers, and we asked them all to share their thoughts on wedding venues as well as some stunning images from inside the stately home.

In his email Martin said, “The venue is tantamount to being a guest at the wedding to me!  Couples spend a long time visiting and choosing, and I think they’re done a disservice if the venue isn’t properly used on the day by the photographer.  Especially if it’s somewhere as splendid as Arley.”

alternative royal wedding inspiration photo credit Damian Hall (15)Back in the very beginning of English Wedding Blog I wrote my ‘About‘ page to introduce myself. I love pretty things: I adore edgy, provocative and rebellious things as well. My response to the diamond jubilee and Olympics marketing-fest has been halfhearted… until Mat Hepplestone of Red Floral got in touch. Mat’s flower designs are always a revelation – and his flair for the alternative and cutting edge in flower design is unrivalled. With such a top creative team behind this shoot, I’m convinced: Britannia rules!

This is a wedding industry shoot which stands out from the crowd of red, white and blue-bedecked blog features. And while I might sample a cupcake and wave a bit of bunting come jubilee weekend (I’ve moved back to a little Cumbrian village – my Dad will make me!), inside my heart this is the Britannia I can relate to. The story behind the shoot is just as inspiring – over to Mat to tell you more.

photography Hannah Dornford May (1)Morning everyone! Wedding dresses and some behind-the-scenes pictures today… I wanted to tell you a little more about couture dress designer Erica Stacey. Erica has made a real splash in the Manchester and Cheshire wedding scene (if that’s the right word: is there a ‘scene’? Answers on a postcard please…) with the launch of her couture bridal wear brand at the luxurious Tatton Wedding Show in January. I’ve come across her name on Brides Up North wedding blog and seen her dresses featured in fabulous creative shoots by some of my favourite wedding photographers. This lady is making waves – with gorgeous designs and a fantastic commercial launch, allow me to introduce Erica Stacey Bridal Wear.
