Whenever I look at Jess and Martin’s wedding pictures I find myself smiling right back at the screen. Jess is beautiful; her smile infectious. Their day is full of lovely moments and the prettiest details – and bursts of colour with sunflowers and summer flowers to make my heart sing!

I (Jess) went to a wedding fayre in London with my mum and we bumped into Amanda and James. I loved their style of photography and after chatting to James, I instantly knew they were the photographer for us and they truly were.

Amanda and James are just brilliant, there aren’t enough positive words to describe them. We met for a pre-wedding shoot and they instantly put us at ease. On the day Amanda photographed the bridal party and it felt like she was one of the girls! Amanda and James blended in with our guests and their style of photography is fantastic.
The first time we saw our wedding photos we were absolutely blown away. Amanda and James managed to capture the happiness, magic and details of the day. When we look through our photos it’s like reliving our special day all over again!

Copper and succulents for a Refinery wedding with Amanda Karen Photography Essex (18)

Our pages are so often filled with soft, feminine styling ideas and fabulous floral-filled stately home weddings. My heart is equally drawn to urban celebrations with a quirky or chic aesthetic, and today’s shoot from lovely Amanda Karen Photography combines the best of both worlds with a fabulous floral curtain and sleek, copper styling touches.

The Refinery by Drake and Morgan is such a brilliant venue: in Regent’s Place, central London, and with a cool and urban interior, it works perfectly for this industrial luxe wedding style, brought together by Carmela weddings.

Copper is still such a major trend, and the perfect complement to soften its shine is succulents. The greenery in the tablescapes is perfect for a wedding all year round, and I adore the little details as much as the breathtaking curtain of foliage. Striking geometric shapes in the cake and stationery add to the look.

Our bride wears a stunning dress by Truvelle from Heart Aflutter Bridal. The sparkle and sensuous shape of the dress are so incredibly beautiful – the flowing skirt is graceful and perfect for a city chic wedding celebration.

Most couples we photograph have never planned a wedding before and have no idea what to expect, the same can be said for having their photograph taken professionally.  Of course, we have all had photos taken on nights out, family trips out and probably love the odd selfie, but it’s very different being in front of a professional lens!   And whilst lots of people have food tastings, dress fittings, practice speeches and may have a rehearsal dinner, they don’t think about practicing for their portraits.  And that’s exactly what an engagement shoot is, it’s your dry run.

Your engagement shoot is the best time for you to practice being in front of the camera, really get to understand what it’s like being photographed by your chosen wedding photographer and to see how awesome the results are.   Plus you get gorgeous images of the two of you to put up in your home, use as save the dates or even as your table plan.

“But we loved with a love that was more than love—
I and my Annabel Lee—
With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven
Coveted her and me.”

Beautiful Buckinghamshire wedding inspiration shoot, images by Amanda Karen Photography (30)

Edgar Allen Poe’s hauntingly beautiful love poem Annabel Lee inspired today’s breathtaking bridal shoot. I adore the luxury, the timelessness and opulence of everything you’re about to see.

Images are by lovely Amanda Karen Photography who explains, “The dark and romantic nature of this poem was woven through the shoot with deep reds, elegant blacks and opulent golden touches. Hedsor House was a natural choice for the venue with its iconic looming stature and its luxurious interiors.”

Extravagance and luxury styling really works here. The haute couture wedding dresses look regal and sensuous; and I do so love any beautiful wedding dress which isn’t white. Ian Stuart knocks it out of the park, obviously… swooon!!!

The rich colour palette lends itself beautifully to autumn or winter wedding styling – the gold accents and those divine black candles are fabulous.

Today’s gorgeous couple Su and Mark were married in the summer and their day is so wonderfully personal, quirky and unique – with fish, lego tattoos for all the guests, oodles of home made touches and home made mead (or perfume, depending who you ask!) I also adore the horror inspired wedding cake – such a talking point and really creatively done (truly!) – and the images are fabulous. When wedding blogs encourage you to have a wedding which reflects your personalities, this is exactly what we mean!

Genuinely relaxed and festival style wedding inspo with Amanda Karen Photography (15)

“We had bunting in the marquee, lots of fairy lights for when it got dark, a ‘best day ever’ banner, a big inflatable flamingo and crocodile. The table plan was a map of the world made up of spots with all the places we’d ever been marked on. Each table was assigned a country/place. At the table, there was a photo of a memory from that place and a short story about something funny that happened there.

Wedding DIY in 2017 is nothing new: we’ve all seen mason jars, glitter craft projects and yards of homemade bunting. But the trend is becoming more focused, with a nod to artisan design and true craftsmanship – simply wrapping everything up in hessian and lace is beginning to look just a little dated.

Beautiful calligraphy in a modern style photographed in Venice by Amanda Karen Photography (6)

The latest wedding style trends are all about skill. We love the abundance of flower workshops all over the UK. We’re excited by crafty hen parties, silversmithing workshops and brides and grooms who embrace a new challenge for their weddings. But our favourite simply has to be calligraphy.

The art of hand lettering is a rare magic. We lost our daily scribbling skills in the early 2000s… but we found a love for beautifully written, carefully crafted and stylised letters. The biggest trend in wedding stationery since ever, calligraphy has real impact and will add the loveliest personal touch to your day.

A venue bold enough to name itself amazing – in its actual name. A bouquet full of rich reds, statement blooms and delicate tendrils of fern… and the most stunning couple. Today’s wedding is simply wonderful; with elegant, richly colourful detailing and an atmosphere of pure romance. You will love it!

He’s proposed, it was the most surreal and beautiful moment of your life, you said yes (it was always going to be yes!) Life can’t get much better right now and the future is filled with exciting promise and limitless opportunities.

Then it begins…… where to have the ceremony, will it be church or civil? At the same venue as the reception or local registry office? Home or abroad? The start of a very long list of things to decide upon.

Many a consultation has seen me chatting to brides who have had to spend money rectifying earlier mistakes simply because the excitement of planning a wedding has completely run away with her (one client bought 4, yes 4 different wedding dresses!).

Don’t get me wrong – what bride to be isn’t excited? I would certainly be concerned if you weren’t – but with a few simple hacks, wedding planning can be an efficient and streamlined process (with minimal stress!) and a touch easier on the pocket.

This styled shoot was inspired by the growing trend in urban feel weddings in London but with brides wanting to maintain that luxurious and stylish feel. Watercolour touches added softness to the industrial surroundings of Drake and Morgan at Kings Cross through the use of silk linens, stunning stationery and a beautifully water colour painted cake.

The use of herbs again brought a softer feel to the venue but also bought the outside in, something that can be important to brides if the venue they choose does not have its own green outdoor space.

“As we had a marquee all the decoration was down to us, we tried to keep it quite simple with cream carpet a white linings a lot of the marquee was open so to bring the outside area in. We hired a bar made from wooden pallets and a few other vintage features from Idyllic days.

I made invites, menus, and a wooden pallet filled with pictures of our families on their wedding days. I love anything like that and really enjoyed finding all the perfect elements for each project.”
