Brides have been customising little pieces of wedding attire for decades… a little embroidery on a keepsake hanky might have been a little ‘out there’ in the 1920s but now you can personalise pretty much anything you’ll wear on your wedding day! I love the idea of having your names in embroidery tucked away somewhere at the side of your wedding veil, or in the lining of a bridal jacket … and those denims just totally have my heart!
When Noemi (Thyme Lane Photography) emailed me with this earthily beautiful elopement, she had my heart in a few words: “I just don’t think couples need to spend extreme amounts of money and stress a lot about their day, just have a few pretty details and love each other.”
Yes. That. Exactly that. We share every kind of wedding inspiration on blogs, from luxury weddings to intimate celebrations and elopements (and I’m on the lookout for a micro wedding!) but this – this is what makes me personally smile more than anything in the world. There’s something really lovely about modern calligraphy. Seeing the pen flow across the page as I write is just magical. Coming to a calligraphy workshop is a lovely experience – often brides-to-be come with mums, best friends and future husbands or wives – it’s a chance to spend some real quality time together in the run up to the big day as well.
I teach every workshop myself, and they’re hosted in different locations around the north west of England. Every workshop is aimed at beginners – I’ll start by showing you how to hold a calligraphy pen and you’ll learn how to write beautiful alphabets and quotes in no time!

The heavens opened halfway through Mila and Paul’s outdoor ceremony… but this amazing couple grinned and got hitched and their day is absolutely beautiful. I love the location – Casa Grande is a historic house with guest accommodation set high above the beautiful twin lakes of Lagoa des Sete Cidades in Portugal – an unforgettable location for a beautiful destination wedding. Alex and Anneka are the coolest! They chose East Quay Whitstable as their venue and focused their wedding planning on food, alcohol and music… because “these are the main things that make a great wedding and that your guests will remember!” It’s a brilliant June wedding with a neutral palette and simple, elegant styling touches and florals. We’ve featured East Quay weddings on the blog before now, and it’s a venue which always has that boho beach drifter, cool and quirky vibe. It’s definitely a favourite for English Wedding, and I just know you’ll adore Alex & Anneka’s day!
