Sam & Lauren’s timelessly beautiful Greek destination wedding, with Kalampokas Fotografia
Allow us to whisk you away this Monday morning to the Greek islands. Our gorgeous couple Lauren & Sam were married on a beautiful summer’s day, with family joining them from all over the world. Sam’s elderly aunt travelled all the way from India, which was a delight for the happy couple! It was her first time in Europe and she loved it, especially having all the family together! They had a Mehndi in the evening, with the wedding ceremony the following day. The images capture the atmosphere of the celebrations beautifully, and there’s a gorgeous video of their day for you to enjoy below too.
I’ll leave you to read about their glorious destination wedding, with details from our beautiful bride Lauren.
We met at church in Paris! We were both living and working in Paris and we were attending the same church. We became good friends and it started from there! The proposal was Jan 1st 2018 – Sam came to North Carolina while I was visiting my family and surprised me with a ring! (which I was totally not expecting). We were alone at a friend’s house and it was just a really nice moment between him and I.
Wedding photographer’s website
How did you choose your photographer?
Our wedding planner sent us her list of vendor partners and we looked through their profiles to find a photographer with a style that suited us.
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!
Yes, Lefteris was great! He captured all the small details as well as really special moments during the ceremony and after dinner. He was so kind and patient to take so many pictures with all our guests.
Videographer details if applicable – and any thoughts for other couples about having a wedding video?
Definitely do it. It’s so hard to remember your wedding because so much is happening and it is such a nice memory to look back on and remember how much fun we all had.
Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?
The venue was called Thealos Village. We really wanted a place where people could stay and we could have the wedding. It was important for the weekend to feel like a close family trip with some parties sprinkled in. Especially since we had never had all those people on the same continent at the same time before!
Thealos was perfect for this, we got to spend more time with our friends and family. Not to mention the views at Thealos are amazing. They have perfect outdoor green space that overlooks the sea and really made our day beautiful.
Did you hire a wedding planner?
We knew that no matter where the ceremony was, a large portion of our family would have to travel. So, we thought if everyone is having to travel, we should have them travel some place that people would also like to visit. We, also, serendipitously met Claire from Lefkas Weddings via a friend and it just all fell into place 🙂
Claire was so amazing! She made our day perfect down to every detail and item of decor. She also found us the perfect venue and arranged great activities for us and our guests… like the boat cruise on M/S Christina!! We loved our wedding on Lefkada and we think about it often. I highly recommend Claire and Lefkada island for your wedding!
Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?
I knew I wanted something lacy and not too big and I definitely wanted sleeves and I saw this design and loved it straight away and had it custom made.
Sam’s suit was from Hugo Boss and he chose a gold tie to match with the decor theme.
Our Mehndi Party attire was bought for us by Sam’s family from India.
Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness
I just love simple and elegant white flowers and green is my favourite colour. It fitted perfectly with the olive trees and being in Greece.
Our planner gave us two mood boards, the Mehndi was colourful and then the wedding day was a classic and elegant board with my favourite colours. Both days they tied together with gold accents.
On the day the flower arch was amazing, so pretty!
As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?
It was delicious, we served it as a dessert as it was like a gateau. It was two tiers and decorated with flowers and olive.
Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves
My mom and I designed the gift bags and what would go in them. We choose miniature products from each of our home countries, the places we have lived and Lefkada honey for our wedding destination!
The Indian food was important to Sam for his relatives and he took the task of choosing the dishes for the menu. Then we chose the wedding dinner which was Greek food, together.
For the Mehndi night we had amazing food catered by Royal Indian Chef from Athens which was a great bonus. Lauren’s heritage was included in the gift bags and the ceremony was a blend of both of us.
Did you personalise your vows or have any wedding readings? What were they?
In the ceremony we included elements that reflected our shared faith and it was also very important that people close to us from our family and dear friends took part in the ceremony. We chose songs that were very special to us as a couple but also in our spiritual journeys.
We did not personalise our vows, but did pick some Bible verses that resonated with us as well as some traditional church blessings. We had those read by some of our closest friends and family.
What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?
Grow Old with You by Adam Sandler. We chose it because it was short! We didn’t want to do a long dance, we really just wanted to get the party started, but the lyrics are also really sweet and really true for us.
