Anna & Kevin’s chic modern wedding at Hyde House, with Katrina Matthews Photography
Hey lovelies! I have an outstanding wedding for you today – this beauty caught my eye for the fabulous designer stationery, created by the bride and groom! It’s chic, elegant, minimal and utterly beautiful for it, as are our gorgeous newlyweds. Honestly, these two have my heart! Stunning bride Anna looks amazing in a Mikaella dress from Brides of Berkhamstead (who get a glowing review for everything they do!) and Kevin looks ever so handsome in a fabulous quality grey suit with pocket square. I absolutely love the images by lovely Katrina Matthews Photography, which capture the joy and ambience of the day beautifully.
With love,

How did you choose your photographer?
I know Katrina from school, and once we’d seen her work it was the easiest decision to make! We’re so pleased we could support the business of someone I’ve known for so long.
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!
Katrina was fantastic! We had an engagement shoot with Katrina (which she offers to all her clients) and it was the best thing we could have done. She put us at such ease, so when it came to our wedding day it was just as though another friend was in the room! We loved her creativity, the champagne shake and pop was so much fun, and the photos at the end of the night after a few drinks were hilarious!
Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?
We came across Hyde House when looking for a barn-style venue. We looked locally but nowhere could compare to the contrast of the modern barn and house filled with character. Having 20 bedrooms on site that have just been refurbished also came in pretty handy!
Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?
We LOVED our outfits! The suits were contrasting jackets & trousers which looked different to the norm and also very comfortable (and great to have a smart jacket to wear again!). The dress was by Mikaella, from Brides of Berkhamstead. I’d been to a few shops previous to this one but the service was outstanding, the dresses were gorgeous and the whole experience was everything I could have dreamed of and more!
Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness
We were recommended Kimberley at The Flower Boutique from a close friend who used them for their own wedding flowers. Not only did Kimberley put up with the back & forth when i was constantly changing my mind, she totally got the vibe we were going for and kept it on budget (something I found very difficult to achieve with a lot of vendors!). Not only were all the flowers gorgeous, Kimberley saved the day (on her own birthday!) to run to the shops and find us a base for our centrepieces, whilst we were at the venue having a small meltdown!
As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?
The cake was absolutely delicious. As someone who’s lacto-free, i struggled to find someone who could create a dairy-free cake, but it was no issue for Anna at SugarBowlBakes. We went for lemon, raspberry ripple and coffee cake as they’re our favourites, and Anna didn’t disappoint.
Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves
We kept the look and feel pretty simple, but with a few special touches. We both met at a ten-pin bowling tournament and decided we wanted to include this somehow. We came up with the idea of stripping back bowling pins to their wooden centre, wrapping them in fairy lights with a floral base. Trust me, there was a lot of hard work that went into those pins! One of our bridesmaids and groomsmen decided to keep one after the wedding and etch our names and wedding date into the pin as a keepsake – what a lovely gesture!
Did you personalise your vows or have any wedding readings? What were they?
We’re not religious so kept the vows pretty simple – the whole ceremony lasted around 30 minutes and with a few laughs, it felt very much like the perfect wedding.
What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?
We were struggling to find our first dance song as we have fairly different tastes in music, until one day… in Ikea… we got it! Friday I’m In Love by The Cure was playing and as we were marrying on a Friday we thought – perfect – a song we both like AND has a meaning! We asked the band we hired to play this with an acoustic start which built up to get all the guests dancing.
