Nothing can brighten a hump day like a stunningly beautiful wedding… and this one is EPIC! Our stunning bride and groom tied the knot on the edge of the Lake District (pre-lockdown!) and their day is filled with sunshine, love, laughter and the most wonderful florals. Eden Barn wedding photographer Howell Jones Photography gets a brilliant review from the happy couple – unsurprisingly, as the images of their day are just fabulous!

Warren was brilliant the entire day! He has a very calm, professional manner, which is exactly what we needed as a camera-shy couple. He is clearly very passionate about his work and plans meticulously in order to capture all the best moments. He has a natural ability to subtly manoeuvre in a space (the church, for example) without barely being noticed or causing a disturbance – a skill I’ve rarely seen from photographers at other weddings. He also worked brilliantly alongside our videographer. Warren’s candid photography style makes for the most interesting and emotive pictures. We were so happy with our collection and enjoy looking back on all the memories of an unforgettable day.

The wedding video

Craig our videographer also deserves a special mention as he, too, was superb both in the lead up to the wedding and on the day. Similar to our photographer, he was calm, friendly and professional. The video he created is phenomenal and perfectly encapsulates the whole day. We had to really consider having a videographer as well as a photographer but it is 100% worth it.

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

Eden Barn in Little Musgrave, Cumbria. https://www.edenbarn.co.uk
Eden Barn was the first and only venue we visited. Situated in a tiny village in the Eden Valley, surrounded by hills and fields, the rustic barn with stunning extension provided the perfect venue for us. Cliff and Carolyn (the owners) were so welcoming and kind throughout our planning with their advice and recommendations. We were able to tailor everything to our liking and make it our own.

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?

I made my wedding dress, which allowed me to create something I felt was truly representative of me and my style. I spent hours on Pinterest narrowing down styles I liked and ordered a lot of fabric swatches of various silk, tulle and lace. The dress was comfortable and lightweight so it was a dream to wear on the day, I was so happy with it. I also made a veil with a beautiful lace trim and wore a flower comb in my hair.
Tom, the groomsmen and the Dads bought and hired suits from Moss Bros. A 3-piece navy blue suit with tan leather shoes and I picked the teal green wool ties from ASOS.

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness

Julie was a pleasure to work with. She created the most beautiful floral displays and bouquets that complimented the venue and our attire. She really took on board the styles, colours and themes I wanted and brought it all together on the day, coordinating the move from church to venue as well. My bouquet in particular was gorgeous, I didn’t want to put it down!

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

My good friend Miranda made my cake. She’s an amazing cook and baker and I was thrilled when she insisted she make our wedding cake. She made a 3-tier sponge with vanilla buttercream icing. Th sponge flavours were lemon with early grey, carrot cake and chocolate. They were all equally delicious and it went down really well with the guests.

Our caterer Lucy’s Inside Out was also fantastic. Lucy and her team went above and beyond, planning for months in advance. She is highly experienced at catering events and weddings and had a huge wealth of knowledge and ideas to contribute. The food was simply divine and went down a treat with all of our guests.

Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves

As the venue allowed us to choose all our own suppliers and put our own stamp on the venue we had a lot of fun with a few creative projects. We made a hanging frame for a photo booth area and a another wooden frame with mesh to peg the seating plan cards to. I painted a wooden pallet with the order of the day. For our table place names we laser-cut our guests’ names onto individual wooden tags. We displayed our parents’ and grandparents’ wedding photos in frames next to our cake. My favourite purchase was our shot ski we bought from Etsy.

Did you personalise your vows or have any wedding readings? What were they?

We didn’t personalise our vows, we had a traditional church service with three readings which were –

What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?

Our first dance song was “You and Me” by Lifehouse. There’s no romantic story behind it. We both like the song and the lyrics, and felt it would suit the style and tone of our band who performed it – The Bourbon Street Band. They were awesome!
