This week on the English Wedding Blog is unashamedly floral. It’s spring – what can I say?! Time to start thinking about summer wedding flowers… and oh, do I have something wonderful for you today! Girls – don’t limit flowers to your – well, to your flowers. Splash them on your dress, on your girls’ dresses, on your stationery… because flowers are going to be the biggest thing in weddings this year!
Lovely Nottingham make up artist Jenni Hughes got in touch with me to show me this super romantic floral styled shoot, full of ideas for spring brides. It’s bursting with the prettiest flowers and will steal your heart if pink is your ‘thing’!
Jenni says, “I was inspired to put together a pretty and romantic shoot filled with pink florals featuring a delicate and romantic yet wearable makeup look.
The Venue: Kelham Country House
I’d worked at Kelham Country House in Newark On Trent, Nottinghamshire on several weddings for bridal clients and knew that the venue would be a perfect fit inside the bridal suite and outside in the gardens. The house and grounds are beautiful and so quintessentially ‘English’. The bridal suite is white with touches of pink and has huge windows letting in lots of daylight.
The photographer: Ed Godden Photography
I researched photographers extensively and had followed Ed Godden Photography’s work for sometime and was delighted when he said that he would come on board with us. Ed is highly sought after for his unique style and travels across the country and further afield. On meeting Ed he has a real passion for photography and always has. It speaks volumes in his work.
The day of the shoot was so lovely and laid back and he really put our models at ease.
The Flowers: Mrs Umbels
Flowers were an integral part of this photoshoot and after much perusing of blogs and magazines I found Sarah at Mrs Umbels. Her beautiful style was exactly what I was looking for.
On the day Sarah made bouquets, hair pieces and circlets and styled the bridal suite in pretty pinks including chrysanth and ranunculus, waxflower and roses. It was wonderful to see how creative is and she was even making pieces as we went through the day. A true artist.
The dresses and accessories: Wendy Makin and Klaire Van Elton
Our models Alex and Safia from Blake Models were dressed in beautiful gowns by Wendy Makin with accessories from Klaire Van Elton Bridal Adornments. I’d met Klaire on a previous shoot for her collection and knew her beautiful pieces would suit the look. Klaire provided hair accessories and cuffs which complimented the gowns perfectly.
The makeup: Jenni Hughes
For makeup I wanted to create looks showcasing radiance and light with romantic pastels for Spring. Soft, pretty pinks and lilacs on the eyes with liner for emphasis. Natural lashes were applied which makes the eyes pop on camera.
Rosy pinks were used on the cheeks with a light shimmer skin finish on the cheekbones to reflect the light.
The lips were kept pink to compliment the tones in the flowers and dresses, creating a soft Spring bridal look.
Hair was kept soft, romantic and feminine by stylist Alison Jenner, with flowers added by Sarah at Mrs Umbels.
