Before I show you one of the prettiest weddings of the year so far – and you’ll LOVE it!! – a very quick reminder that I have a dozen sponsor slots left from May. If you’re interested read this and get in touch! But more importantly…
Very early on her wedding day morning Kerrie went for a walk in the countryside around Studland village. This is such a lovely thing to do: she told me it was very relaxing and a really memorable moment of the whole day. I think it’s really romantic and a wonderful way to think ahead to the day which will follow.
I love how the venue was decorated: it was a labour of love with family pitching in the day before, and only the second time a wedding reception had taken place in the hall… but Kerrie and Nick truly made it their own and styled a pretty, welcoming and relaxed celebration which I’m thrilled to be sharing with you today!
The gorgeous couple chose Dorset wedding photographer Ian H Photography to capture their day. Do check him out:

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?
Ian was so lovely, and we took his perfect advice of going for a break just for a special moment by ourselves.

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?
Relaxed, informal, emotional – a hoot!
What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?
I loved seeing my wedding photos, I’m just too picky about myself but Ian captured parts of the day that I had missed and it was lovely to see them.
Your wedding style or theme:
Rustic, country vintage
How long did you spend planning your wedding?
Best bit of budget advice?
I got my bridesmaids’ dresses from Primark and customised them – it saved hundreds!
Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:
We were a bit last minute so we got them from Clintons, I don’t believe in spending too much money on stationery.
Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?
Yes I planned to sell it straight away but I haven’t been able to part with it yet and want another photoshoot in it before I sell it!
Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:
Maggie Sottero, Chameleon.
Glitz and sparkle – the bride’s accessories:
My hand band was beautiful by Halo & Co but I got it second hand from Ebay and sold it after for the same money.
Suited and booted – the groom wore:
Nick wore a lovely blue suit from Zara with blue suede shoes ready for dancing.
Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?
I actually am a hair and make-up artist for weddings so it was an extremely hard choice! I did my own make-up and had my hair done, but was extremely fussy www.bridaltreats.co.uk
I went for a rustic theme with my flowers adding purple thistles which were beautiful. I had about 35 jam jars and small glass vases in the tea rooms with delicate pretty garden flowers.
General styling – did your venue need much decoration?
Oh god yes, we spent the whole day before the wedding styling the venue. They had only held one wedding there before but it was a marquee wedding. We decided to just use the tearooms for afternoon tea and the working barn for the evening partying so I hired lots of fairy lights and my lovely dad and husband spent ages with a very tall ladder arranging them beautifully in the barn, whilst me, my mum and sister set up the tea rooms with the vintage china.
DIY – tell us about any handcrafted elements of your wedding…
I made the favours which were little jam jars with sweets in and I put a little fortune cookie note in each one. I made a lovely suitcase for the cards which I lined with vintage papers, I now use it as a memory box for all my wedding stuff. I also decorated jam jars for the flowers.
The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?
My Step Mum made my wedding cake, it wasn’t traditional as I don’t like icing and I didn’t want that perfect look. It was a naked victoria sponge decorated with fresh flowers – I loved it.
We had my dad’s band play in the evening which was amazing and meant so much.
On the day tips and advice:
I woke very early so decided to go for a walk by myself and took photos of the beautiful area: it was a very memorable moment for me and helped me relax.
