Good morning, lovely. I have a tear in my eye as I write today’s little blog post for you. I’ve just been shown a short film of three of the UK’s longest married couples talking about their happiest moments in life. It puts everything into perspective. Amongst their happiest moments are getting married and meeting for the first time… still a cherished memory for Helen after 80 years of marriage.
An independent market research company interviewed 1,000 people over the age of 70 last year. The survey revealed that amongst the happiest moments in life are wedding days, meeting the man or woman of your dreams, and the first kiss with the man or woman of your dreams… and I imagine most of you reading will remember two of those and be planning the other!
I also wanted to share this section of the research, which is a lovely reminder of what’s important in life:
Top ten pieces of advice to live a happier life:
- Never take the people you love for granted
- Believe in yourself
- Remember what is important to you
- Nothing worth having comes easy
- Put your heart and soul into everything you do
- Don’t hold grudges
- Don’t be jealous of success
- Stop worrying and live in the moment
- Spend more time with your family
- Choose your friends wisely
The film stars Maurice and Helen Kaye who celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary last year, along with two other British couples who have been married 73 and 60 years respectively. It was produced by BAFTA-nominated filmmaker Gary Tarn and commissioned by Beagle Street following research revealing that the key to a long and happy life lies in a loving relationship rather than money and material gains.
