This gorgeous pair celebrated with a relaxed vineyard wedding reception where guests could relax in an outdoor sitting room – a space filled with comfy sofas, chairs and hay bales. As with every wedding our friends from York Place Studios share with us, this is a day full of character where the atmosphere just zings through my screen and makes me smile, chuckle and grin my head off.

Wedding photography should never be all about the details. Don’t let wedding blogs fool you – planning can be detail-focused, that’s fine. But on the day all that matters is the people, the love, the laughter, the party. And when your memories arrive through the post box a few weeks after your wedding (because that, my lovelies, is what your wedding photos are: memories to keep forever) – it’s the moments of joy and connection and pure happiness which are important.

I have a rare gem of an editorial shoot to share with you today, lovelies – a dreamy screenful of images which will warm your heart and bring sunshine to your soul. Maybe photoshoots are missing a trick by not capturing the sheer joy of a wedding: but today we set that to rights with the most beautiful girl in a truly incredible setting, smiling and enjoying every second of her day…

The styling touches are exquisite, fine art luxury and I would encourage you to take inspiration from them to style your own wedding: whether you fall in love with the peony and rose bouquet, the show stopping Ersa Atelier gown or those glorious deep blue candles – take a little of this carefully curated shoot with you today and let it shine onto your own wedding day, do.

Wedding chairs are a big thing for 2018. It’s rare nowadays to cover chairs; instead brides and grooms are sourcing their own chairs with a look to fit the style of their day. You’ll very rarely see a chair cover on a wedding blog – and I’ve featured so many wonderful shoots with ghost chairs, chiavari chairs, crossback wooden chairs and eclectic collections of chairs from chic city venues I thought it was about time we looked into the wedding chair mystery a little further!

I spotted a great piece on alternative wedding chair styles on Wedhead‘s blog (which is a beautiful part of the internet all on its own, and highly recommended reading) which taught me so much about wedding chair styles. Lovely Anastasia explains that chair covers can be just as expensive (as much as £10 each!) to hire as chairs themselves – and someone has to spend an hour or five wrestling them onto the chairs… is it really worth it? (And then they come off… I’ve even seen people wearing chair covers at the end of one evening do! As ghosts. Not even kidding…)

Somerley Estate sits right on the Dorset and Hampshire borders and is the stunning backdrop for this inspiration shoot.  A privately owned home and wedding venue, the house was designed in 1750 and has been in the Normanton family for five generations.  Somerley is gorgeous, (very) grand and has a lot of history.  With this shoot I wanted to bring a little piece of understated contemporary style to blend with the traditional luxury surroundings.

The colour palette combined grey with teal and soft apricot and I chose to blend silks by Kate Cullen with contemporary acrylic and copper materials.

The stationery was beautifully designed by Georgina Read Creative, on cotton combination paper with torn edges and featured a lovely copper seal detail. In fact this was one of my favourite details!  The stamp used was THE Somerley stamp and is hundreds of years old.
