I’d be willing to bet actual money that more than one person has already told you, don’t sweat the small stuff.

This is how I spend my time when I’m not writing the English Wedding Blog.

Summer days are spent with my pen and inks, scribing names onto the most exquisite papers and working with brides and grooms to create beautiful styling touches for their weddings. I hope you like them!

Lovely fine art wedding photographer Lara Rios was kind enough to take the sweetest photographs of some of my favourite place names earlier this year. Lara is based in the US, and is one of the reasons I love social media SO much – discovering people like Lara brightens my days. Do follow her on Instagram – she loves all the beautiful things which make my heart sing and her styling and photography is just divine.

Do you have a vision for your perfect wedding invitations? Are you collecting images you love on Pinterest, but leaving it until 6 months or so before your wedding to place an order? Or do you think DIY-ing your invites will save you money? (And surely it can’t be that hard, right?)

I’ve been a wedding calligrapher for 12 years. I’ve made bespoke invites, launched my own collections and helped hundreds of brides and grooms find their perfect stationery. I’ve also seen thousands of invitations cross my desk from letterpress companies, high street brands and little independent wedding invitation designers.

But I’m lucky – I get to see (and make!) your stationery: I don’t have to find something for my own wedding. It’s hard – for some of you it will be way more complicated than you think. You’ll need to make compromises, scale back your expectations… or maybe be surprised when you find invitations which are less expensive than you thought they could be!

The romance of late summer sunshine in today’s wedding inspiration shoot has my heart. So many times I ask myself how I’d get married, and today is one of those days where I’m convinced I’d elope and say “I do” in France. The dreamiest images by amazing UK & destination photographer Victoria JK Lamburn have whisked me away to Paris today and as much as I try and concentrate on other work, my heart and mind are at le Tour Eiffel – and I’m in love!

I supplied the calligraphy for this shoot! Vicky asked me to create something beautiful and bespoke to slip in her suitcase, and the moody hues and informal lettering were such a pleasure to write! You can find out more about my calligraphy at By Moon & Tide.

The English garden wedding theme is one – quite possibly the only one – which will always be on trend. We love the romance of our home-grown flowers, the greenery and scents of hazy summer days – and it’s a style which conjures up memories from childhood, days in the countryside and magical holidays close to home.

Greenery is a huge thing for 2017 – and we love it to bits. This shoot is full of gorgeous foliage and fabulous styling with softer accent colours and statement blooms. Stylist Lauradana from Wedding Creations combines those gorgeous greens with white and soft pinks to create a feminine wedding style I know you’ll love.

Autumn is an amazing time to be married – the colours of the season are super inspiring and there are so many incredible ways to style your day. Today I’m thrilled to be featuring some gorgeous autumn wedding inspiration from the lovely team at Aspire Photography Training. Their styled shoots are wonderful; I was lucky enough to be there for this shoot (you’ll spot my calligraphy here and there!) and I LOVE it.

The colours are bold and striking; contrasting soft blue tones with autumn colours works wonderfully. Vibrant orange cocktails and burnt whisky colours look stunning; combining berries with feathers and textured props is a delight!

The calligraphy was written in shades of orange; I used a handmade paper with white lettering for the invitation and place names, while quotes and poems are striking in amber shaded inks.

Venice wedding inspo Aspire Photography Training Jenny Heyworth (29)

I’d LOVE to run away to Italy and elope, strolling hand in hand with my guy through characterful streets in the Mediterranean sunshine. Wouldn’t it just be a dream come true? Today’s wedding inspiration comes from the fabulous team at Aspire Photography Training, with styling by Catherine Connor and photography by Jenny Heyworth. They lived my dream this summer, taking a trip across to Venice to create this sublime elopement shoot.ClaireVenice wedding inspo Aspire Photography Training Jenny Heyworth (38)

I love working with the Aspire team. They’re creative, fun and just have an instinct for styling the loveliest wedding inspiration. The little details matter too, and I was thrilled to be asked to send some of my calligraphy over to Venice with them!

Everything about Venice is romantic. The tiny streets, the crumbling bridges, the lace and glass working… I really do adore it there (when I lived in Trieste I used to hop on a train every weekend just to wander the streets and soak in the atmosphere!) – and Jenny’s images capture the essence of this most romantic of cities.

Coastal wedding ideas in Cornwall with Andrea Kuehnis Photography (16)

To celebrate my birthday earlier this year we spent a week exploring the Cornish coast – fabulous sunsets, glorious beaches and dramatic scenery made it one of the most amazing holidays I’ve ever known. So today’s wedding inspiration has my heart (and a little of my calligraphy! Thank you Andrea!), and I hope you love it too!Claire

One of my most favorite places is Cornwall. I found myself stunned by the beauty, the wild coast, the cold water and the wild wind, and also the rain! Cornwall is inspiring, and popular with so many famous novelists who lost their hearts to its natural beauty.

Jade and Brad are both from Cornwall, met way back in school, were friends for so many years and finally started dating when they were 19 years old. Engaged for 6 years, they had to wait quite a while until they got married. During this time, their sweet daughter Orla (irish for Golden Princess) was born. They are both such a wonderful and energetic couple, loving life and so happy about their future lives together.

The key to styling your wedding in 2017 will be mixed colour palettes. I have the huge pleasure of working with many talented wedding stylists, and they all have an instinct for combining gorgeous colours to create inspiring and pretty wedding themes. Today I wanted to show you some beautiful ideas for one of the hottest colours in weddings: blush pink.

The girls at Aspire Photography Training put together this stunning styled shoot full of blush pink wedding ideas. Combining lush textures and materials (I just adore the wood & silk ribbon combo, don’t you?!) they styled a fabulous tablescape around a blush pink theme.

Mixing and matching elements to create a theme is so important. I love the brass candlestick and vessels alongside trailing foliage and a mixed floral centrepiece here. The divine florals are by lovely Katie at Made in Flowers (Kendal) and styling is by gorgeous Yasmin Joughin for Aspire.

Today’s styled shoot is a favourite – I’m biased, because I’m a little bit in it (tooo exciting!) and also because the creative team behind the images are super lovely friends from the north west. Emma Billsborough is an amazing photographer, a fabulous person and a friend I’ve known through the English Wedding Blog for years – and this shoot is one of the most exciting projects of my year.

Emma brought together a fantastic group of north west wedding creatives to show couples how to style a day with colour. Mixed palettes don’t have to be soft and subtle, they can be bold and exciting and still ooze grace and elegance.

I love the way Emma B Photography‘s images capture the glamour and playful colour palette of the shoot. The cake – masterfully painted by The One Who Bakes – is a showstopper, don’t you think?

This summer has been wonderful already. I’ve written for some amazing couples, worked on fabulous projects for wedding signage and stationery, and designed calligraphy suites for some of my favourite photographers. Tomorrow I’m teaching a calligraphy workshop in Manchester and we have another (booking up fast!) on the 19th of August. If you’d like to come along, you can book places in my Etsy shop now. But first… a few little notes about using calligraphy for your wedding day.

So many brides and grooms contact me looking for a special, personal touch to their day. Calligraphy is more than just writing: it’s art, craftsmanship and creativity – and as such it lends real elegance to place settings and wedding tables. Most of my work over the summer months is writing place names for weddings, and I thought I’d share some tips with you all today.

5 tips for styling your wedding tables with calligraphy

  1. Keep it simple – use flat cards, linen napkins and plain plates or chargers for a modern, elegant look

Good morning lovely blog friends! I hope you’ve had the most amazing weekend and are ready for some fabulous wedding style ideas this week – we have some gorgeous real weddings, styled shoots and advice features coming up over the next few days for you to enjoy! But first… the loveliest thing I could find to begin a perfect week for us all…

Imagine a lakeside ceremony, a peaceful, tranquil setting for your celebrations with a dream backdrop. The Lake District is our very own destination wedding location right here in the UK, and filled with inspiring wedding folks to create the most perfect day. The delicate blues and exquisite details in today’s styled shoot are perfect for Pinning and planning your day around!

Colour can come from any aspect of your wedding décor. Be inspired by the walls of your reception room, or the outside spaces at your venue – and add pops of colour with an ombre blue cake (we LOVE!), little paper boats (wonderful for an unusual table plan!) and stunning summer flowers.
