About English Wedding

English Wedding is a celebration of love, creativity, and the brilliant independent businesses that help make weddings feel so personal and meaningful.
Hi – I’m Claire. I’m the founder, editor and writer of every email you’ll ever receive from this website. I launched English Wedding back in 2009 with the simple idea that wedding inspiration should feel real, beautiful and genuinely helpful (not aspirational, corporate or fake).

Over the years, this blog has grown into a trusted space for couples planning thoughtful weddings, and for independent wedding suppliers who bring those celebrations to life. From real weddings full of heart to styled shoots, advice from wedding experts, and honest conversations about running a creative business in the UK wedding industry, everything we publish here is chosen with care.
A new home for independent wedding businesses
English Wedding exists to champion small, creative wedding brands from photographers to florists, dressmakers, planners and celebrants, stationery designers, venues and all of the talented people who pour their hearts into this industry. Supporting independent businesses has always been at the centre of what we do.
I don’t chase big corporate sponsorships. I’ve stopped publishing generic press releases for brands which don’t truly align with this space. I don’t believe weddings should be influenced by mainstream media’s opinion on what couples ‘should’ spend on, or driven by trends if they don’t feel authentic to individual couples. Instead, English Wedding celebrates originality, creativity and empathy. This is what makes weddings unforgettable.
If you own a wedding business, this is a place where your work can be seen, your hard work appreciated, and your beautiful images shared with couples who care about what you do.
Real weddings, styled shoots and meaningful ideas
At its heart, English Wedding is a storytelling platform.
You’ll find:
- Beautiful real weddings full of personality, centred around supplier recommendations
- Styled shoots created by hardworking and talented teams of suppliers
- Thoughtful features written by our members
- Practical advice for couples and wedding suppliers
Why English Wedding is different
Weddings should feel like you: they should reflect who you are as a couple – and that can mean quiet and understated, traditional and romantic, or bold, joyful and full of life. No wedding should be a performance and no couple should feel uncomfortable with the wedding choices they make.
English Wedding celebrates individuality, ethical choices, and the quieter, more personal side of wedding planning. It’s about making space for different ideas, intimate weddings and elopements, and for businesses that care deeply about their work.
This blog has always been proudly independent, run by one person who genuinely loves the UK wedding industry and the people who make it such a lovely place to be a part of.
A little about me

Even before launching English Wedding, I ran my own wedding calligraphy business. I understand first hand how much resilience, creativity and persistence it takes to build a small wedding brand.
That experience shapes everything I publish here.
It means I see the human side of every wedding business too. Unlike some directory websites, I see suppliers as hardworking people with families and homes – you are never just a brand as far as English Wedding is concerned.
When I’m not writing (calligraphy or blog posts), I’m often walking by the sea or up the Lake District fells close to my home. I share my life with my partner Steve and our two young cats Magic and Nola. The four of us enjoy listening to heavy metal, protest singers and folk / punk music, reading books about dragons, dabbling in cookery and spending time in nature.
Thank you for being here
