I know: festival-esque isn’t even a word (even if I try and make it look like one by adding a hyphen). But it perfectly describes the wonderful spirit and sense of fun in today’s glorious barn wedding – and I know you’ll get it when you see the fabulous photos telling the story of Helena and Chris’s wedding day.

“Helena & Chris’s barn wedding had such a fun, relaxed vibe that the vibrant mix of personalities and friendships (and especially the VERY excited kids!) provided so many great collective moments throughout the day, not least as Chris’s amazing Reggae band ‘The Reggaelators’ rocked the house into the early hours until everyone was ready to grab a sleeping bag and hit their tents!”

Girls and guys – if you’re booking a barn for your wedding reception then you’re going to need a little help with the styling… and you’re going to have so much fun planning and decorating the place! Countryside touches, rustic floral arrangements and traditional crafts are some of the things I love most about English barn weddings… and all of the beautiful touches in the images shown here are from Gemma & Joe’s wedding, photographed by lovely Benjamin Mathers Photography.

Barns need lighting, so it’s a great idea to start here. Gemma and Joe strung festoon lighting between the beams, added fairy lights and repurposed a beautiful vintage candelabra – which they found in a bric-a-brac shop – as a centrepiece for their barn wedding.

Hanging flowers on the walls add interest to bare patches – and they’re super easy to do with a little twine or raffia and some nails! Remember to add water unless you’re using dried flowers! 😉

Ah… a beautifully styled contemporary wedding with just a little hint of vintage. Kate and David’s big day is gorgeous and inspiring. I know you’ll love it! Kate wore a Stephanie Allin gown with Rainbow Couture shoes, and the couple kept venue decorations simple (to beautiful effect!) Their Suffolk wedding at Smeetham Hall Barn looks fantastic and it’s thanks to wedding photographer Jeff Turnbull (www.jeffturnbull.co.uk) they have such wonderful images to remember their day by.

The little love birds are adorable – I love little touches like this! – and the bunting with calligraphic initials is gorgeous… so enjoy this wedding on the blog and read slowly: there are so many lovely details to inspire you, and also Kate and David’s wedding report at the end of the feature is full of great advice.
