Advice on trying on wedding dresses, by Ailsa Munro on the English Wedding Blog (1)

It seems like it’s fairly common knowledge that wedding dresses “run small” compared to high street shops.

If shopping for the most important dress of your life wasn’t stressful enough, a lot of brides are then also faced with the horror of being squeezed into too small samples, pinned at the back with your bra showing, and having to show your bridesmaids and Mum while trying to imagine what it’ll look like in the right size.

As a dress designer, I wanted to explain why this is so common, and what you can do to avoid getting overwhelmed by it.

We’re looking back on an amazing year of real weddings, editorial photoshoots and glorious prettiness on the English Wedding Blog. We’ve shared features with so many amazing suppliers, I wanted to introduce you to some of our favourites today – and where better to begin than with the folks who turn dreams into reality? It takes a huge amount of talent and skill to be a wedding stylist and planner: these guys have an eye for beautiful design and a head for figures, logistics and calm reassurance. I take my hat off to every single one of these wonderful planners – and I would recommend them to any couple looking for a little extra help with any aspect of wedding planning.

Before today I never realised art deco had such exciting and rebellious origins! If you’re having an art deco inspired wedding – or marrying in a venue with an art deco look, you should read this and embrace the spirit of the times – let your hair down and have twice as much fun! Huge thanks to Tina from Crimble Hall for the fabulous inspiration in today’s guest article!

Jetsetting bridal brand Otaduy is one of our favourites here at the English Wedding Blog HQ. Their dresses are floaty light, pretty and simple – and their styled shoots remind us all that brides don’t have to look like princesses. I love their look: it’s sassy, a little alternative and always gorgeously streetwise.

Today’s editorial was photographed on Lisbon streets by Hugo Coelho. The urban setting brings the dresses to life – the look is fabulously fashionista and perfect for a modern, city bride!

For the last month or so I have been having secret little conversations with the English Wedding Blog sponsors and friends I’ve worked with this year. We’re working on something I’m really excited about, and it’s time to tell you all what we have planned for the New Year! If you’re a wedding supplier, there is still time to get involved.

After seven consecutive years as a top ten UK wedding blog, the English Wedding Blog is launching a brand new digital magazine in January 2018.
