Picture the scene: A close friend calls you up. ‘Hi, how you doing? Look, I know it’s not really your thing, but would you mind doing ten minutes of stand-up comedy in front of a room half full of friends and half full of total strangers? It’d mean a lot to me.’ You want to put the phone down but you can’t. They’ve just asked you to be their best man and give a brilliantly funny speech at their wedding.
Today’s wedding is wonderful. A glorious mix of Lakeland and Scottish styling touches, with home grown flowers (all of them – isn’t that amazing?!), DIY details and the most beautiful bride and gorgeous groom. The venue is lovely Askham Hall, which looks fabulous and has the most incredible gardens for outdoor shots. I think my fave thing about Cally and Colin’s wedding is all the help they had from friends and family to bring their day together, and all the personal touches – an heirloom kilt; hand painted table names; oh! and a genius idea of a song from the best men which Cally explains in her interview below. Back in June, lovely Laura from Inbetween Days Photography came along to a calligraphy workshop in Manchester. She was a whizz with a calligraphy pen – like so many of you amazingly talented people from the internet, she was writing like a pro within 2 hours of picking up a funky pen for the very first time! Sometimes images speak for themselves; sometimes they sing. Today’s billowing, seaweed-scented shoot has a yearning, breathtaking aesthetic which lightens my heart with its beauty. Styled by the wonderful Serpentine Shores Co. and photographed by Salt & Sea Photography, it’s simply perfect and will appeal to beach brides everywhere.
Bleak, wild, billowing and windswept; our inspiration for this shoot was stories of mythology, both Celtic and Classical. Particularly stories based around the coast and ocean. Stories foretelling of the sea’s peculiar, poetic and enigmatic nature. Subtly, our narrative was one of a sailor, a shipwreck, a sea spirit and a Shakespearean storm.
