2020 marks the beginning of a new swathe of trends, and some revivals, as we ring in a new decade. The major wedding trend will be sustainability; something which will likely influence the wedding entertainment choices of the year.

The main thing, trend or not, is to make an impact on your guests with wedding entertainment that stands out, and suits you as a couple.

What we’re seeing, though, is that there are 10 wedding entertainment trends that are proving particularly popular in 2020. Read on to find our top trends for wedding entertainment in the UK this year:

1. Festival-style folk bands

Still riding the folky high brought about by the likes of Mumford & Sons and… well, Mumford & Sons, festival-style folk bands bring a touch of high-energy, summery fun to a family wedding.

Fitting with a more traditional tone, folk bands, with their largely acoustic instruments, will complement the natural tones likely to be found at a sustainability-driven wedding.

2. Singing serving staff

On the note of making an impact, a unique choice can be singing serving staff. These roving performers will spend a large portion of your wedding serving guests food and drink, but will take their cues to break into song.

This entertainment with a difference can add something special and keep your guests on their toes, not knowing whether their waiter’s bringing champagne or a sing-along.

3. Country

Country brings a rustic touch to any wedding, with an honest and nostalgic character setting an easy and memorable tone for your wedding.

With anything from Dolly Parton to Johnny Cash, country’s upbeat simplicity can reach across generations and keep everyone on their feet.

4. Classical

On what is set to be one of the most emotional and heart-felt days of your life, classical music can add a hit of the dramatic and bring out something in everyone.

The simple awe of talented performers can be tailored to suit almost any theme and lend an unforgettable atmosphere to your wedding.

5. Combined DJ and live musician acts

DJs often make for the ideal act of choice for weddings, able to play almost anything and keep everyone happy. Steering well clear of ‘Puppy Love’ and ‘Agadoo’, combined DJ and live musician acts make for a more dynamic performance.

They bring not just an almost infinite supply of tunes but also highlight and enhance them with live instruments such as saxophones and live vocals.

6. ‘80s bands

Nostalgia comes and goes, but the biggest case right now is for all things ‘80s. TV shows such as Stranger Things have left their mark, with a huge demand for period hits as well as themed covers of current chart-toppers.

Opting for an ‘80s-themed act is sure to a leave a lasting impression and bring certain family members back to their hay-day!

7. Vintage and jazz

Hot on the tail of TV hits such as Peaky Blinders, vintage-themed wedding entertainment will suit anyone looking for a slightly tweed-heavy wedding.

Vintage and jazz bands are a guaranteed way to add some lively character to your wedding, hitting a range of themes or even just staying true to a dress-code.

8. Bandeoke

A timeless favourite, karaoke gives everyone a chance to embarrass themselves for the collective enjoyment. Bandeoke will allow your wedding guests to perform their favourite hits with the backing of a live band, in a way they may never experience again.

9. Swing

Swing bands are a guaranteed way to get people out of their seats, with lively, timeless hits from Rat Pack legends like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

You can be sure to make your wedding an unforgettable one with swing musicians dressed to impress and shaking the house down with old time rebel charm.

10. Magicians

Able to entertain and mystify, magicians will always make for fantastic wedding entertainment. Keeping guests happy can prove tricky, but the varied and engaging act of a magician can add that extra ‘wow’ factor that you may be looking for.

Any of our top 10 ideas are sure to make your wedding the one people remember into the next decade. Whichever wedding entertainment you opt for, make sure that it makes you happy first and foremost.
