Ways of looking at weddings – Imogen & Ed at Lartigolle, with York Place Studios

Published by Claire Gould on

Let’s do this differently. Usually when I’m blogging a wedding I scroll through the images I’ve been sent, picking out favourites – my ‘hero’ shots which resonate with me as a wedding blogger. They’re the photos I think will capture our readers’ attention – the ones with all the love, the styling and decor, the venue, and with the couple front and centre.

With Imogen and Ed’s wedding as I scrolled through their photos this morning my mind was taken on a journey – these images really made me think, and this is what I wanted to share with you.

The images are by leading UK and destination wedding photographers York Place Studiosmembers of English Wedding and sought after worldwide for their inimitable documentary style, spontaneous and unscripted approach, and the amazing way they capture memories on camera.

The venue is the idyllic French chateau Lartigolle, known for its unique event spaces, fabulous party cave Club de Lartigolle, and breathtaking surroundings.

I’d seen this wedding on York Place Studios’ own blog from Ed & Imogen’s Lartigolle wedding, where photographers Dom and Liam talk about this being a child-free destination wedding, and how children are often a source of spontaneity which brings out really instinctive and open behaviour for wedding guests – and is a big part of their photography style.

So for Imogen and Ed’s wedding without any child guests, it was really interesting to read how York Place Studios had approached the day with spontaneity, looking for those in-between moments where the grown-up wedding guests relaxed and their real characters really shone. (Spoiler alert: they absolutely nailed it and the images are out of this world!)

For me, as I looked through the photographs the story that shone through was led by music. The way wedding entertainment can lift and enchant celebrations, bringing a life of its own to the party. In Imogen and Ed’s case, the party was incredible, with a full dance floor until the early hours – and the photos are insane, reminding me of those artful shots you see from concerts (I go to a lot of gigs and follow a lot of bands on social media) – and so today’s wedding photos really brought the day to life in such an exciting, invigorating way.

Every couple has a different expectation of how their wedding day will feel. If the two of you are all about the celebration, the dancing, the party atmosphere – then this is a blog which captures that vibe better than any I think I’ve ever seen before.

It comes down to a handful of components: hiring the right venue, inviting your best people, booking an amazing photographer, and choosing an incredible wedding band. Curious? See more destination wedding photography by York Place Studios here.
