Wedding blog from Kent by reportage wedding photographer Mark Carey (32)

Today’s wedding blog is for all you brides and grooms planning a relaxed, informal and fun day: a wedding without stuffy rules, constraints and conventions. Tanya and Andy had a fabulous creative wedding at Brick House Farm in Kent, and reportage wedding photographer Mark Carey was first to tell me about their day.

I instantly loved the few images he shared with me. I knew I had to email Tanya right away and she was kind enough to share her amazing wedding story for the blog. It’s a wonderful tale – here is a bride with imagination and a wonderful confidence to create a really personal wedding day.

I could write for hours – but Tanya’s words are compelling so I will leave the story of this wedding to the bride herself. Suffice it for me to say she is a very beautiful bride: with her very own style, looking striking and fabulous in a wedding dress I LOVE – and enjoying every second.

It’s nice to have a little shake up in the world of wedding blogging once in a while… and if you haven’t already read “Dear Weding Bloggers, You Suck” on Hindsight Bride, you will find it a great read.

In a nutshell, Christie posted an open letter from a wedding photographer about the state of wedding blogs and our negative influence on brides. Ouch! But there were some very interesting points:

  • only elaborate, unusual weddings are ever on blogs
  • it shouldn’t be all about the details
  • we only publish pretty weddings and pretty brides
  • brides and grooms feel pressured by the images on blogs
  • wedding blogs are starting to look very samey
  • we’re not giving photographers a chance

I posted a long comment on the blog post*, and thought as I was writing it might be worth repeating here**. I’d love to hear your thoughts too.

My views on the state of wedding blogs, as shared on Hindsight Bride

Jesus – ok where do I start with this one?!

It’s a bit spooky: the second wedding in as many weeks I’ve seen from The Ashes – a wedding venue I hadn’t heard of before. But it’s gorgeous: as we sink into autumn this wedding has all the loveliest, richest autumn colours and tones – like a virtual hot toddy in the world of wedding blogs.

The wedding day begins with this beautifully cold countryside scene – this is The Ashes wedding venue in the heart of Staffordshire, a grade two listed family home with converted barns providing the perfect secluded setting for a private wedding reception.

This wedding was submitted by Vickerstaff Photography in Cheshire. Jamie and Tory Vickerstaff are experienced wedding photographers – and I love that their wedding photography blog shows as much excitement, passion and enjoyment of every wedding they photograph, after more than 200 weddings!

I need your creative wedding ideas!

So… I want to hear about your best creative wedding ideas. Don’t be shy – share the little things that you’ve invented to make your wedding personal, special and a little bit unique.

Creative weddings aren’t always about bunting. If you’re doing a bit of wedding DIY, then brilliant. But it’s not just about that. Creativity is in the way you think:

Hi everyone! I have a lovely new sponsor to tell you about this morning: a lady with a passion and a story – wedding photographer Kat Forsyth has joined our little team on English Wedding blog.

Kat Forsyth UK wedding blog sponsor photography (2)

Kat is a wedding photographer from South Africa, who specialises in fun, fresh and natural wedding photography with an artistic and creative feel. If anyone’s now thinking, “well that’s a bit of a long way” – Kat has joined English Wedding as a sponsor because she’s moving to the UK in early 2012 and, very happily for English brides and grooms, she’s going to be a London wedding photographer (she’ll be happy to travel anywhere for a wedding, of course!). Which is fab!

I’m only sharing a couple of images with you here: one of Kat’s favourites, and my very own exciting favourite favourite (the one below – fab!)

Victoria and David’s wedding is gorgeous – when Sara and Tony from Marry Me Films got in touch I instantly fell in love with this film from their Thornton Manor wedding. Victoria is a real English beauty, and her wedding dress covered in lace and sparkles is really, really lovely.

So today’s blog post is a quickie for me to write! Enjoy the wedding film – Paul Weller provides the romantic soundtrack by the way – and watch out for that first view of the magnificent ceiling* inside Thornton Manor. You’ll also be impressed, I think, by Victoria and David’s six tier wedding cake. Yes – six tiers! Wow…

Wedding blog bridal shoot Jane Austen inspired. Photography Joe Dodsworth (20)

I’ll warn you before I begin: this is a bit mad! Inspiration for your wedding day can come from anywhere – your taste in music, your love of books… perhaps you’ve read Pride and Prejudice, or you fancy yourself as a bit of an Emma?

I love bridal shoots. I love to see what photographers and wedding suppliers come up with when they get together to do something creative. In this case, a rather eclectic group of very talented people brought Jane Austen’s fantasies back to life in a way that’s so ‘English Wedding’ I couldn’t possibly say no! Lisa from The Wedding Affair has written a little about the shoot below. Smile, giggle if you wish, and enjoy the drama!

When we decided to do a photoshoot at the stunning Newby Hall in preparation of our October wedding fair, we looked to its history for our inspiration. For those who don’t already know, an adaptation of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park was filmed there a few years ago and there we found our answer – a Jane Austen inspired shoot. Perfect!

A creative wedding day in the heart of the countryside. A beautiful English country house, a gorgeous bride and groom, stunning pictures, even a nod back to the royal wedding (who remembers that one?!) – so I think you’ll really love this wedding blog feature!

This is one of two weddings at The Ashes I have to blog – so if you love this wedding venue, keep watching English Wedding blog!

Ruth and Andy make a great couple and I’m delighted to be sharing their wedding with you today. When wedding photographer Jonny Draper got in touch with me he told me “Ruth and Andy are a gorgeous couple, their wedding had loads of lovely details – one of their ushers had made her shoes for example! (not on a whim, he is actually a shoe designer!)” And that last little comment swung it for me – I had to see more!

Real wedding blog The Ashes Jonny Draper (2)I have all of Jonny’s gorgeous wedding photography from the day here, along with a fantastic wedding report from Ruth. I’ll hand over to the two of them for the rest of the blog post. Enjoy it everyone!

Yesterday I shared Andrea and Richard’s classy wedding in Cheshire. They were married in July and despite the rain it was a beautiful celebration: not least for Andrea’s stunning halterneck wedding dress and the inclusion of their adorable little son and the cutest EVER bridesmaid and flower girl.

wedding blog by cg weddings photography UK (1)I saved lots and lots of gorgeous images of the wedding reception for you. A deliciously sophisticated garden wedding reception, this blog post is full of ideas for styling your day – as well as the usual collection of beautiful wedding photos to make you smile and dream of your own wedding day!

By the kids’ area. Enjoy the grown up photos of the party below – as ever, beautifully captured by Cheshire wedding photographers cg weddings. And then let’s go and have a peek at the kids’ tent, shall we? With bunting, flowers, games, treats and a selection of exotic creatures and creepy crawlies, it’s brilliant inspiration for entertaining children at your wedding. You’ll love it…

Morning everyone! I thought I’d start the week by getting away from it all with this wonderfully different and personality-filled Scottish wedding. Who’d like to join me and get away from it all for five minutes? Come on… you’ll adore this.
Wedding photography credit for blog Jonathon Watkins Photoglow (3)Scottish wedding? Yes – my little wedding blog likes to explore further than the English borders, and this is an irresistible celebration I absolutely had to share when my friend and great wedding photographer Jonathon Watkins got in touch.

Wedding photography credit for blog Jonathon Watkins Photoglow (2)Heather and Gavin chose the Inner Hebridean isle of Kerrera for their wedding day. It’s remote – wedding transport for the day included the ferry and a tractor and trailer. Footwear was wellies and hiking boots. The scenery is spectacular, the images stunning and the entire wedding day so perfectly created around the charm of the isle and its ruined castle.
