Wedding venue coordinators and wedding planners - what's the difference? Katie Stocks from The Events Designers explains (2)

When friends tell me they don’t need a wedding planner – there’s one at the venue – I get a little nervous for them. Even the most relaxed of weddings on the surface needs someone behind the scenes making sure everything goes smoothly. The larger your guest list and the more complicated your wedding plans, the more likely it is you’ll need a little help along the way. If you can afford to spend a little to calm your nerves and reassure yourselves that your wedding day won’t be stressful – it’s so worth chatting to a wedding planner. They’re your lifesaver if you need one; and they’re a world away from the wedding coordinator at your venue. Lovely Katie Stocks from The Events Designers explains why.

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all staying safe and warm through this ridiculously cold spell! We have no snow here on the Cumbrian coast – in fact it’s been lovely and sunny since Friday – but omg is it cold on the beach! So I’m staying in, snuggling into my slippers and hot chocolate and happy to be sharing some extra special blog features with you all in the run up to Christmas. Today’s is no exception… did you see our list of 15 favourite UK wedding planners published yesterday? If you did, you’ll have spotted our lovely friend Helen from Pudding Bridge. Carmela Weddings are Sam and Lisa and they’re not your average wedding planners. They believe that luxury and edgy are a perfect match – and make it their mission to bring them together in weddings that are unforgettable. I’m really rooting for these guys: wedding planning needs a refresh, and couples with a clear sense of style have been crying out for a duo like this for too long!

The Carmela Weddings ethos is firmly based on luxury, but luxury rooted in style, art and fashion as Sam and Lisa believe that the potent mix of these elements is the way to create a truly unique day that reflects their couples’ personalities.

As a husband and wife team, they are able to offer something different by seeing the wedding process through male and female eyes. This doesn’t simply mean that Sam knows suits and Lisa knows flowers, or vice versa, but their skills and experience in design, event management, entertainment, logistics and more ensures that any aspect of the wedding you want and deserve is in safe hands. They’re also a member of the UK Alliance of Wedding Planners so you can know you’re getting a professional service too!

Right here on English Wedding Blog I’m showcasing what wedding planners do: looking at the behind the scenes process of wedding planning. Over on Whimsical Wonderland Weddings (wow Lou, typing your blog name is hard work! 😉 you get to see some of the wedding planners at play! They let their hair down a bit and got dressed up in wedding dresses to create a fun and inspirational shoot. Enjoy! The photos are all by Eliza Claire Photography.

The UK Alliance of Wedding Planners (UKAWP) exists to promote professionalism within the wedding planning industry, but also helps to educate brides (and suppliers!) about what wedding planners do. We have a large number of wonderful members across the UK, each working independently and running their own successful businesses, but with one single aim – to provide brides and grooms with a professional planning service for their wedding day.

I always wonder who hires wedding planners: is it the brides with limitless budgets or is every modern bride hiring a wedding planner? Here we have the answers – and some great insights into the world of the wedding planner, from the First Annual UKAWP Survey. Read on for some very interesting wedding industry stats from one of English Wedding’s recommended wedding suppliers.

UK Wedding Planning Trends 2011

The UK Alliance of Wedding Planners (UKAWP) has undertaken its first annual online survey amongst UK planners, looking into the weddings they plan.

Wedding Planning Survey Results

  1. The average budget clients have for their weddings is between £20,000 and £30,000 say 38% of planners, however nearly 20% spend between £30,000 and £40,000, with 10% each spending £40,000 – £50,000 and £50,000+.
  2. Most planners (54%) use between 5 and 10 suppliers at a wedding, with 27% using 10-15 and 10% using 15-20.
  3. The average number of guests at weddings planned by respondents is 10-150 (63%), with 25% planning weddings for 50-100, 6% planning weddings for 150-200 and only 8% planning weddings for 200+.

I’m not a big fan of the traditional press release, and more often than not I’ll send a cheeky reply to emails that land in my inbox asking for a better one. Sometimes it really pays off – and today as a result I’m very happy to be able to introduce you to Berkshire wedding planners Kate and Karen, henceforth to be known as Klass Act.

Klass Act Wedding and Events in Berkshire

Interesting name, I thought. UKAWP trained: impressive, I thought. But the press release entitled “From ‘Klassroom’ to Klass Act” was far too professional for English Wedding! So I got back in touch and asked for more. Kate didn’t disappoint with her second email, in fact she really won me over with tales of a cactus, boys in tights and the ‘teacher glare’!
