Hello everyone! It’s been such a long week – I’ve done so much and I hope you’ve had a productive one too! Here’s a highlight though – one of my favourite wedding photographers has been in touch to share something special with us all. Yay!! If you’re considering documentary wedding photography or wondering what it’s all about, this is a feature you’ll really love – and there’s much more to discover via the link at the end of the post! I’ll hand over to Martin Beddall now. Enjoy!

Bride arrives for wedding ceremony at St Paul's CathedralEvery year needs a look back and last year the weddings went up until New Year’s Eve – so here’s a brief look back at a year of documentary wedding photography coverage.

Hope you like them… here’s a few preview pics. Scroll down to a link to the rest, which you’ll find at the end of this post.

UK wedding photography blog CG weddings (40)A Vera Wang wedding dress… Louboutin shoes for the bride and bridesmaids… horses and carriage… a wonderfully luxurious country house wedding venue in the Cotswolds… top hat and tails for the groom… and award winning wedding photographers.

So much to show you today, such a gorgeous wedding – and you know, for me the very best bit about Emma and Burnsy’s wedding is the love and laughter.

UK wedding photography blog CG weddings (51)This really is a fabulous designer wedding day – with so many details and moments to share with you I’m splitting the blog feature over two days. Today – the bridal preparations and wedding ceremony are all yours. Emma and her girls had the best morning ever – and there are some lovely photos which are guaranteed to bring a big smile to your face! I think today I’ll make the most of showing you that gorgeous Vera Wang designer wedding dress as well.

I do love a loaded question! Opinions abound on creative shoots – wedding industry friends and peers getting together to have a day out, a picnic, and a bit of a laugh. Is that all it’s about? Of course not!

Do you, as a bride or groom-to-be, think creative shoots are useful, give ideas, entertain or provide good eye candy?

Or do you look at inspiration shoots on wedding blogs and in magazines and wonder why wedding photographers, dress designers, florists, cake designers, stationers and jewellers seem to spend all their time on creative shoots?

My thoughts on bridal inspiration shoots

I’ve heard lots of opinions on the subject of creative shoots. Engaged couples and industry insiders alike differ in their views. Some think creative shoots are a waste of time while others love the creativity they promote and explore.

wedding photography Pippa Mackenzie (1)More sunshine for you… with love from Olivia and Matt. Yesterday I featured their beautiful church wedding and we left them stepping out of the church hand in hand… today it’s time for the reception and it’s just so perfect… lush flowers and a sunny and happy day for you to enjoy.

Photos are by Pippa Mackenzie and words from Olivia. Watch out for a wonderfully eclectic cupcake tower – looking fabulous! – and some impressive shapes ‘thrown’ on the dancefloor… and why not listen to the wedding band while you look at the blog post? I’m enjoying their music as I type!

wedding photography Pippa Mackenzie (2)Throughout the day we could not stop smiling (and neither could our guests). It was a really relaxed and intimate afternoon. We both wanted to have a wedding which was not too regimented which allowed us and our guests to enjoy the day. Olivia’s parents had planned the wedding so well and Phil and Sandra (Pimpernel Associates) were there on the day to make sure everything went smoothly – Sandra was armed with a box of treasures including tights, plasters, nail varnish and sewing kit.

Wedding photography Hengrave Hall

I asked an innocent little question on facebook the other day. Something I was pondering as I looked through wedding submissions for the blog. I’m not a photographer. I’m wouldn’t call myself an expert. I see a lot of weddings; I think I can tell a great wedding photograph… but how can I really be sure I’m choosing the very best wedding photography for my English Wedding blog?

Wedding photography Hengrave HallSo then I thought about helping brides and grooms out there who might be wondering the same thing. And my photographer friends came to my rescue and explained how to choose the very best wedding photographer. They shared advice which applies to me, brides, grooms – anyone out there looking for great wedding photos. It’s easy to choose the perfect wedding photographer for you – and this is how (with advice from the experts!):

Do wedding photography qualifications matter?

My friend and expert wedding photographer Chris Hanley had lots of advice to share on the subject of wedding photography qualifications. My thanks to Chris for explaining how the various types of wedding photography qualifications work – and for sharing his opinions and helping me understand what really matters!

Wedding photographer Cat Hepple is a lovely lady – one of the loveliest wedding photographers I’ve had the pleasure to meet via the wonders of the interweb. She’s also an inspiration and someone who can turn any day into an absolute delight… and when she sent me Jessica and Martin’s engagement shoot it made my day.Pre wedding photography north east by Cat Hepple (15)

Cat Hepple captures romance like no one else I’ve seen – her photography has a unique romantic quality I love – and it’s why I fall head over heels every time she shares a new Romance Shoot.

Cat told me a little about this stunning shoot so I will leave all the words to her today, and sit back with you to enjoy the glorious shoot!

This week on English Wedding is one of beautiful contrasts. Today is a quiet, thoughtful and peaceful day – and this blog feature is about pure, enchanting and beautiful wedding photography. Kevin Mullins is a fantastic reportage wedding photographer and I want to show you one of his latest weddings.

Emily and Andrew were married in May at Malmesbury Abbey, a historical abbey dating back to the twelfth century, with incredible period architecture used to beautiful effect in Kevin Mullins’s wedding photography.

Styal Lodge real wedding blogCome and join me for this enchanting wedding at one of Cheshire’s most luxurious wedding venues. Built especially for weddings, Styal Lodge is a pretty cool place – and Charlotte and James’s wedding shows off all its best bits!

First seen on the English Wedding Showcase, I love the fun elements of this wedding day: there’s a great picture of the bridal party with funky umbrellas, and towards the end a lovely portrait picture is completely thrown by the arrival of a naughty spider… McAvoy Photography really do capture the fun and playfulness in a wedding day and I’m sure you’ll love this as much as I do.

Charlotte and James are the most adorable couple – they look so deeply in love with each other, and I’m really proud to be sharing their wedding with you today.

The Lowry, Manchester. This is a wedding venue and theatre (not usually in that order) in the heart of the newly developed Salford Quays district, close by Media City and a haven for creative types. The Lowry is named after Manchester’s famous artist L S Lowry, he of the matchstick men: stick figures huddled against the rain in greys and browns and gritty landscapes.

There’s a beautiful irony here: Jayne and Phil’s wedding at The Lowry is a rainbow of amazing colours, bright and sunny, blissful and exciting. I wonder if L S Lowry would have disapproved of the exuberant creativity… but I love it to bits! The Lowry is full of photo opportunities, nooks and crannies in every colour of the spectrum. Top UK wedding photographer Chris Hanley takes this palette and turns Jayne and Phil’s wedding photos into works of art.

One sunny day in Chelsea, a bride-to-be gets ready with her best friends and closest family. There’s a knock on the door and little feet rush to answer. It’s a man with a camera. Enter reportage wedding photographer Mark Carey, delighted to be greeted by the cutest of cute little girls (that’ll be bride Sam’s adorable little daughter) and set to capture a gorgeous wedding day on camera.

Chelsea wedding photographer blog feature (1)I love the story – in pictures and in Sam’s own words – of this wedding for two things. First it’s just beautiful to look at, one of those where my heart leaped into my mouth when I first saw the images! Second… Sam and Kev did things their own way and created a relaxed celebration, a fun party and a great day for their friends and family. Sam wrote a great wedding report so I’ll hand over to her to tell you all about the wedding day.
