Emily and Joe’s Rutland wedding is everything I love: a very beautiful day full of smiles, romance and magical moments. Their DIY wedding came about from a wish to have a very personal celebration which would be – in Emily’s own words – “full of the things and people that we love”.

Emily and Joe: A DIY wedding in Rutland

The day turned out to be everything Emily and Joe had dreamed of: with a relaxed and cosy reception venue (The Finch’s Arms) and plenty of home made details, it was perfect for today’s gorgeous bride and groom to celebrate their love in a very personalised style. There are ideas here for all of you creative brides and grooms – from hand-sewn tea bags as wedding favours to applique table numbers and handmade bunting.

Nobody says you have to be different on your wedding day. The important bit is to be yourselves, to inject your own personalities into your day. And if you’re lovers of music which isn’t mainstream pop, if your everyday style is quirky and cool and amazing… then embrace it on your wedding day just like today’s fabulous couple!

Rhiannon and Chris’s wedding is out of this world. They’re a great couple and a perfect match. As a bride and groom they look incredible, and Rhiannon in her bespoke, purple, layered, gothic-inspired wedding dress is breathtakingly beautiful.

I won’t spoil this wedding blog with too many words in the introduction. Just – enjoy. The images are by HBA Photography, and Rhiannon and Chris have written a wedding report for you which I’ve popped at the end of the feature. Claire x

Just a quick blog post this morning to say a big Congratulations to my second competition winner of the week. Tina won the MILK books competition which ran in November, and wins her very own MILK book!

photo books

MILK books reflect a couple’s unique personalities by showcasing their special memories in a professionally printed and bound book which they have designed and created themselves online, with guidance from an easy-to-follow design and editorial framework.

I think they’re a genius idea, and you can use your MILK wedding book however you like — think creatively and preserve wedding memories which will mean the world to you – revisit the article for ideas here:

This is a very quick post from me to say two things: first of all I’m looking for new weddings to share on English Wedding Blog – from couples, photographers, wedding film makers (Charlene, Denis and Sarah are you reading this?) – please send me submission ideas and all of your gorgeous weddings to share with everyone! Oh – and the more stationery details you can share, the better!

Also… today I’m sharing a bit of my story from the last year on the blog, it’s coming up at 11. The last twelve months have been painful for me, but November is a fresh start so I’m sharing some inspiring photos of my new home and also sharing a little about my life this year. Be gentle with me if you comment… I didn’t sleep much last night – nerves.

What a strange coincidence: I have two weddings in the space of a single week where the grooms sing an Oasis number at the reception – totally unrelated, but there’s definitely a taste of “rock n roll star” in the air this week!

Before I start curling my lip and drawing out every last syllable, on this blog post, I’ll tell you more about the wedding. This one is simple, elegant and guaranteed to make you smile. Yasmin & Darren Forrester were married at Turkey Mill in Kent, and chose Billie and Matt Photography to capture their day on camera.

It’s a beautiful celebration and the love and laughter are what weddings are all about. Enjoy. x

Who proposed, and how?

It was on the 22 September 2011. We were on a sunset cruise off the coast of Jamaica in the Caribbean Sea. After seeing a rainbow and a school of dolphins following our boat we both witnessed the most amazing sunset. Once the sun went down Darren went onto one knee and made me the happiest girl ever.

Vintage, elegant, classic… there are too many ways I could describe Steven and Jamie-Emma’s Lancashire wedding. I love their story, their passion and their obvious love for their family and friends.

I also love Jamie’s wedding corset and skirt; I love the teacups and birdcages, the vintage table plan. I love how beautiful Jamie is, and I love the look on her mum’s face as much as I love the laughter and the hug for the little boy after what I hear was the best speech of the day.

Jamie and Ste have written their own wedding report, so I will leave you to read that (and it’s worth spending a few minutes having a real, proper read of this one I promise!) and to admire the lovely and sensitive images taken by contemporary Lancashire wedding photographer Anurag Sharma (Shutterleaf Photography). Let’s kick off with a few engagement photos though, simply because these are gorgeous! (And I miss sunshine!)

I doff my hat to Felicity this morning for the best wedding report of the summer! She married Simon in July. Their Kent wedding – at the Great Barn Rolvenden – is absolutely beautiful, full of wedding ideas for details and creative, rustic touches. And it’s a home made affair with plenty of DIY inspiration for all of you lovely brides and grooms out there.

Felicity and Simon chose Kent wedding photographer Rebecca Douglas to capture all the glorious details of their day. Before I hand over to Felicity I’d like to thank Felicity, Simon and Rebecca for sharing such a gorgeous wedding on my blog. You’re wonderful, inspiring people and you’ve really made me smile today! Thank you.

Everyone else – enjoy. This is gorgeous…

The wedding ceremony:

The Ceremony was in the barn itself, with all our guests. We were lucky because the barn has two floors at slightly different heights, so we were able to use a separate area for the ceremony and reception.

Every English wedding should have character, and plenty of it. It doesn’t matter where that character comes from: from yourselves, from the venue you loved at first sight, from the wedding dress you adore or from the speeches or band. Your wedding should fit your personalities. It should be an occasion you will both remember fondly in years to come.

Cat and Tom’s wedding shows you don’t need to make your own bunting to have a beautiful and personal wedding day which is filled with character. Their Yorkshire wedding is elegant and classically simple, with beauty to be found in Cat’s dress and wedding style (they really are a gorgeous-looking couple!), and in the magnificent wedding venue.

Cat and Tom were married at Yorkshire’s Castle Howard, in The Temple of the Four Winds. It’s stunning. This is how memories are made – and with gorgeous wedding photography by Mark Tierney along with Cat’s wedding report, I’m sure you’ll enjoy taking inspiration from their English wedding blog!

I love sharing good news! Today it’s a quickie, to let you know we have a winner for English Wedding Blog’s Paper Themes competition. A few weeks ago I launched a competition with the guys at Paper Themes, to win £150 of wedding invitations from their collection.

Congratulations to Alex from Bristol!

The lucky winner was Alex from Bristol. Alex’s wedding theme is white, silver and black, and I have it on very good authority from the competition organisers that she’s chuffed to bits to have won!

Thanks to everyone who entered the competition. I hope you find gorgeous wedding invitations, whether from Paper Themes or elsewhere. Have another look at the collection from Paper Themes or see wedding invitations from English Wedding Blog sponsors here: http://english-wedding-showcase.com/wedding-invitations-and-stationery/

More than anything else in the world, your wedding should celebrate you and your love. A wedding should be personal, it should be comfortable and it should be right for you.

So when Rob and Jayne’s wedding landed in my inbox I was over the moon. Here’s a couple who bask in their individuality. Both gorgeous and creative, Rob and Jayne’s wedding was a day to remember, and then some! And Lancashire wedding photographer Jonathan Bean was there to capture the whole day for their album…

The other thing I love is when a groom shares his wedding story. Rob’s wedding report begins with a romantic proposal story which brought a tear to my eye – and he tells the story of his wedding to Jayne so beautifully – so this wedding blogger is now handing over to a better writer, just for one day! Rob…

Enjoy!

Melanie and Paul’s wedding is beautiful. Let me set the scene: “messy and unstructured” was Melanie’s brief for their florist, while the key theme for the wedding was that this should be a very personal day. I adore it – from the beautiful images to the perfect flowers and all the love and laughter with friends and family. There’s a wonderful moment where Melanie’s on her friend’s knee, showing off her Kurt Geiger bridal shoes – watch out for it! I also love the wedding sign outside the venue, and the little boy in charge of the wedding rings is an absolute star!

I’ll hand over to Melanie and Paul with their wedding report, and to Dorset wedding photographer Linus Moran for the gorgeous images of their day, which I’m calling:

Zen Photographic wedding blog (5)This morning I’m humming “Bring me Sunshine…” – and I also have some gorgeous wedding ideas to share with you. Zenna from Zen Photographic told me about a little ideas session she’d photographed with Cheshire wedding suppliers at Nunsmere Hall, and I loved the images from the day. I am sure they’ll inspire some of you to create bright, beautiful and fun wedding tables just like these!

There are oodles* of ideas here – from wearing flowers in your hair, to creating alternative floral displays for your tables, and styling everything from the wedding cake to the bridesmaids flower garlands to fit a beautiful garden party wedding theme. I hope you love it!

(*I know – but my job description has “Editor” in it, and part of that means I can make words up whenever I like.)
