Sweet as candy – wedding inspiration & ideas

  • Feature pieces like pink chandeliers or candelabras draped in pink beads make all the difference – either go for sophisticated pink, or splash out and play with it to great effect! You don’t need to go to town, just pick out key touches and go for quality over and above quantity
  • Ask the little girl inside you what goes with pink and she’ll tell you: sparkle, diamonds, crystals and glitter. So add a little twinkle here and there with clear beads, silver and shine

Sometimes the girl takes over. When faced with a sea of pink in, say, Toys R Us, I run in the other direction. But today, seeing this pinkness… it’s like candyfloss, marshmallows and cherry blossom – everything the girl inside me adores. This inspiration shoot is beautifully indulgent, unashamedly pink – and full of ideas for a deliciously feminine wedding style.

Pink is still a favourite colour for brides – and an indulgently pink wedding theme has to say something about the groom too: he’s either head over heels in love and just wants his bride to have the day she’s always dreamed of or he’s in touch with his feminine side! So girls, boys – join me to enjoy lots and lots and lots of pinkness on English Wedding blog today.

Cristina told me, “I organised this lovely bridal styled shoot that took place at Tea Party UK in Finchley. It is a lovely little room owned by Samantha Check, she hosts hen tea parties with beautiful china in very pink surroundings.

Wedding photo by Nicky Chadwick (1)Helen and Rich chose a venue with a difference for their Yorkshire wedding: the Waterton Park Hotel sits on its own island within a nature reserve, near Wakefield. Helen’s Ian Stuart wedding dress is fabulous – she found it in a local bridal store for half price – and looks a dream in softly sparkling gold with French lace and pearls…

This wedding was sent in by Nicky Chadwick Photography. Nicky’s a friend of English Wedding blog, a regular contributor on my facebook page and a lovely lady whose comments always make me smile. Helen was kind enough to write a great wedding report – she’d worked hard to make their wedding day very personal, making her own bouquet and having it preserved as a very special memory of the wedding.

I’ll leave you to enjoy Helen’s own story, with photos by Nicky Chadwick.

Join me in a quick ponder? I hear good and bad things about wedding blogs these days – people love the UK wedding bloggers or hate us, and there are some strong opinions out there! There’s no disputing the fact that wedding blogs have changed dramatically over the last two years – and I wonder where we’ll all be in another two.

Once upon a time for wedding blogs…

Following the rise of Style Me Pretty and Ruffled Blog in the US, the first UK wedding bloggers were lone voices with a small, devoted following. Kat, Charlotte and Annabel all used the internet to plan their weddings, and their blogs grew as their fans spread the word.

I always love a bride who wears her glasses with pride too, and I think Anna looks amazing. There’s everything here: a wonderful story, some fabulous ideas and details, and of course the lovely photos by Manchester’s McAvoy Photography.

Enjoy!

I got ready at the Worsley Marriott Hotel and Mike got ready with his usher Aaron at the flat. He was driven to the church, ST Mary’s Prestwich, by Aaron, I was driven in an Imperial Laudette with my Dad, our chauffer was called Clive.

wedding photography Pippa Mackenzie (1)More sunshine for you… with love from Olivia and Matt. Yesterday I featured their beautiful church wedding and we left them stepping out of the church hand in hand… today it’s time for the reception and it’s just so perfect… lush flowers and a sunny and happy day for you to enjoy.

Photos are by Pippa Mackenzie and words from Olivia. Watch out for a wonderfully eclectic cupcake tower – looking fabulous! – and some impressive shapes ‘thrown’ on the dancefloor… and why not listen to the wedding band while you look at the blog post? I’m enjoying their music as I type!

wedding photography Pippa Mackenzie (2)Throughout the day we could not stop smiling (and neither could our guests). It was a really relaxed and intimate afternoon. We both wanted to have a wedding which was not too regimented which allowed us and our guests to enjoy the day. Olivia’s parents had planned the wedding so well and Phil and Sandra (Pimpernel Associates) were there on the day to make sure everything went smoothly – Sandra was armed with a box of treasures including tights, plasters, nail varnish and sewing kit.

Morning everyone! I hope some of you are enjoying a ray or two through your windows this morning… I always remember my teachers saying March “came in like a lion, out like a lamb” – so maybe it’ll be brighter in a week or two. But if you haven’t got sunshine outside this morning, scroll down: the lovely Olivia and Matt are sharing theirs!

Words are written by Olivia (as wonderful a wordsmith as she was a beautiful bride!) and the wedding photography is by Pippa Mackenzie.

Pippa Mackenzie wedding photography (2)We met at a party held by a mutual friend. Neither of us really wanted to go and so we would say that it was fate that brought us together. At the party Olivia kept pushing Matt off of chairs & tying his shoelaces together. Matt was smitten and stayed at the party well past his last train home.

Matt went off to university a few months after meeting Olivia which only made the relationship stronger, as we were constantly on the phone and planning our visits to each other every fortnight.

I saw the pictures of Matt and Sarah’s wedding day and fell in love. There’s something about this couple which sings… they’re perfect together. And (while I’m a girl who’s usually more into kittens!), there are the loveliest photos of Sarah with her little baby girl which are so touching… I know you’ll love them: they brought a tear to my eye!

These are romantic wedding photographs with a compelling atmosphere to them. They are quiet, and joyful, and heartwarming – thanks to wedding photographer Ben Pipe.

Words are by Sarah and Matt. (My favourite words are about waiters in clown suits… towards the end. Brilliant – and just so apt for my wedding blog.) This kind of wedding makes me love what I do. To bits.

Since then we have not looked back, we have three gorgeous children (Ella, Alfie and Dixie) and are still as much in love today as we were when we first met.

so says today’s gorgeous bride on the English Wedding blog. Fiona had her cast taken off just a few days before the big day – but it didn’t spoil a wonderful wedding day as she married the (also gorgeous!) Toby in London.

London wedding blog (1)

So it was bye, bye Jimmy Choos and hello adorable ballet pumps for this bride! Fiona’s wedding report tells a wonderful story – there are certainly tears but the wedding ends in triumph and celebration… in a Covent Garden nightclub!

The beautiful wedding photography is by Geoff Reardon, and portrays this sophisticated wedding day with the elegance and charm regular readers will recognise from Geoff. I’ll leave you to enjoy the story in words and pictures…

Fiona and Toby’s elegant London wedding

London wedding blog (2) wedding photography blog (1) The build up to our wedding was slightly stressful…..I (bride) broke my foot 6 weeks before and it was touch and go as to whether my cast would be off in time, coupled with the fact that the London Riots were two days before and unfortunately the day before our wedding we had to attend my Great Aunt’s funeral. We literally got back from Yorkshire with one hour to spare before our wedding rehearsal and by the time the morning of the wedding arrived, we were just so keen to get married before anything else could happen to us!

Three big ticks of approval: art deco? very lovely indeed. Pimms? Yes please! (it’s been a long day already… hee!) ice cream? Go on then, mine’s a vanilla with two flakes (see above). Seriously though – this wedding ticks all the boxes for a lovely couple, gorgeous details, unique and photogenic venue… and some fantastic special touches.

Sarah and Rich got married at The Midland Hotel in Morecambe back in July. The lovely pics are courtesy of wedding photographer Emma Billsborough – who will always, always be “ElmoBilbo” in my head, thanks to twitter. (Some handles just stick!)

I love the sleek lines of the wedding venue, the seaside location and the vintage ice cream lady – how cool is she?!

“We got married in Lancaster, where we had met at university, with the ceremony taking place at the chaplaincy on the university campus. It was amazing to arrive at the chaplaincy and see it transformed with flowers and decorations and full of our families and friends. We were married by a chaplain who we both knew from our time at university and family and friends provided the music and readings making it a really personal and special occasion.

Timekeeping is important. I’m crap at it: only this week did I realise my email subscriptions were landing at 3am!!! (thanks to Chris Hanley, who very politely mentioned his iPhone beeping in the early hours every day… Chris I do hope you got up to read my updates!) – and that’s just the start of my organisational problems.

Another example would be Friday afternoons: you know when it’s nearly the weekend and you just can’t be bothered finishing work you could do on Monday morning? That’s what I do. But then again… a little break, a breather, ten minutes of wedding planning instead of work… can’t do us any harm, can it? It might do us good: fire our creativity, perhaps.

Time for a bit of weddingness for our Friday afternoon treat! Enjoy, everyone!

wedding photography by Chris Hanley (13)Katie’s wedding report captures the romance of her wedding to Chris in December. She told me about being whisked off with her new husband for some special wedding photos: “It felt so romantic – as if we were in a love scene from a movie”!

I just can’t decide if the movie I’m seeing in these beautiful wedding photos is James Bond, Narnia or a vintage Hollywood treasure… perhaps a magical balance of all three. Regardless: the screenplay is magnificent, the stars are every director’s dream – and the story a timeless romance to play on your heartstrings.wedding photography by Chris Hanley (1)The very beautiful Katie and Chris were married at Margam Park Orangery – a wedding venue with a rich history and one of the most prestigious in Wales. The architecture is a deliciously extravagant backdrop for outstanding wedding photography – a backdrop Katie and Chris look born to enjoy.

There are details in this most incredible winter wedding which will inspire you: crystals glisten and snowflakes sparkle; Katie’s delectable vintage bouquet of brooches and crystals, flowers and twinkling accessories is simply out of this world – and she made it herself!
