I remember a year or so ago on the blog one of the brides whose vintage wedding featured on the blog told me about a cupboard under the stairs which was full to bursting with a secret stash of cups and saucers she’d been collecting. Today’s blog post has as many ideas for a relaxed rustic wedding as that bride had teacups in her cupboard. Fact.

Hello you gorgeous lot! I have a treat for you today – as I’m having an amazing week I am full of the joys of spring (I’m also an optimist haha!) and I wanted to share an exclusive wedding calligraphy offer with English Wedding Blog readers this afternoon.

I’ve shared a calligraphy blog post about vintage wedding place names on Calligraphy-for-Weddings.com (and explained how all my wedding calligraphy orders come in lovely little packages like presents!).

Exclusive offer for English Wedding Blog readers

I’d like to offer English Wedding Blog readers a 10% discount on orders for these wedding calligraphy place names, and the offer will run until the end of January.

All you need to do is email me (all the information is on the Calligraphy for Weddings website) with your approximate numbers, and let me know which of the place name card styles you’d like. I’ll ask for a 50% deposit to secure your order for any time this year, and when you mention this offer on English Wedding Blog I’ll apply the discount to your entire wedding place names order!

Calligraphy ideas for your own vintage wedding

I’ve just had the loveliest email about my calligraphy from Amy and Craig’s vintage wedding earlier this year. I wanted to share some of it with you, because I’m proud and because I love the way Kirstie Allsopp created something really beautiful from a very simple handwritten luggage name tag!

The flowers and foliage are incredible, but you can create your own gorgeous place settings with a few simple steps too. If writing your own calligraphy, use a colourful gel pen and add big loops to your handwriting – it will look quirky and suit a vintage wedding theme.

Create your own effortless bridal style and be inspired by the romance and serenity in these distinctively alluring images. They’re by Vickerstaff Photography, who shot  Vintage Styler‘s accessories so beautifully the images have since been featured on wedding blogs around the world.

Vintage elegance by Vintage Styler, timelessly captured by Vickerstaff Photography

These beautiful images have featured on Love My Dress blog, Whimsical Wonderland Weddings, So You’re Getting Married and the fabulous Borrowed & Bleu blog. The accessories are exquisite – do have a closer look!

But what strikes me most of all – and what no other blogger has mentioned – is the quality of the photography for the shoot. These images are truly timeless, crystal clear and beautifully lit. They’re enchanting. No vintage processing, no quirky fading or toning… they capture the elegance which is the true secret of vintage style.

Audrey Hepburn herself wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Vintage and retro weddings are still big news and as we approach the beginning of 2011 I have to ask my burning question. Perhaps you can help me answer it.

Why are we still spending so much on vintage-inspired wedding days?

I can’t deny I love a vintage wedding theme, with inspiration from a few generations ago, gorgeous gowns and retro stationery and accessory designs. But isn’t it funny how our 21st century wedding budgets are still stretched when we plan a vintage wedding celebration?

I’d love to know – and I’m secretly hoping – whether vintage-inspired brides are the thriftiest and most inventive out there. Pre- and post-war brides were making their own wedding dresses and more, before most of us were even born.
